Maggie Jones's

I have visited this place many times and on two occasions have booked the huge table on the first floor for celebrations with close relatives and friends (perfect setting). All concerned have left having had a great evening and I know they have raved about it to others afterwards.
The food is traditional English fare (typical comfort food) and I have to say having ordered varying things on the menu I have never been disappointed with the quality or quantity. Everything is fresh and the vegetables are really tasty (plenty too which puts many London restaurants to shame). The house wine is served in magnum bottles and you pay for what you use - again something rare in London, it's also very nice stuff too. Everyone leaves feeling very well fed and watered. I have read some comments on this website suggesting this place is a tourist trap - far from it. It really is a very nice place to spend an evening either as a couple in a cosy corner or with a large group, I have experience of both and whilst I consider the big table to be the best in London it is always a joy to go as a couple or in any numbers.
My review would not be complete without mentioning the staff at Maggie Jones's. They are professional, friendly, hard working and totally willing to accommodate. The service is excellent. Christine the manager is just lovely and always has a smile, she also has the place running spot on.
During my last visit (my birthday) Christine and the waiters Augusto and Fabrizio were fantastic and considering they were dealing with a large group and other diners too I could not fail to be impressed with them, especially as it was a busy night.
Huge thanks to Christine and the boys and everyone else at MJ's - I think we will be back.

Love this restaurant. Possibly our favourite restaurant in London. As soon as we walk in - we feel relaxed. The rooms are warm and cosy - and no matter how busy this place gets - you always feel quite secluded due to the lighting, table sizes, and if lucky enough - the booths.
Service is very relaxed - but great. The prices dictate it would be a stuffy stuck up restaurant with over-bearing staff. It's the opposite. They are super efficient - are always on hand - but never noticeable or in the way.
Food is great - the best posh traditional pub grub you can get. Suggest the stuffed shoulder of pork. Outstanding. When venison is on the special board - order it - but suggest keep the sauce on the side (wasn't a big fan of it)
Wine - we always demolish a Magnum of the hosue red. You only pay for what you drink - but hey we see it as a challenge.
Desserts - again traditional and great. The portions and wine take up a lot of room - so suggest sharing.
Give it a go!

Great decor, really warming and cosy place for when winter starts to set in. I had an excellent lamb pie with great side orders of spinach and cauliflower cheese. A nice hearty meal, friendly service - with a little too much salt.
Reccommend this place as autumn kicks in.

Went to this place last night after a recommendation. Seemed very good to me, though not perfect. The look is very rustic and wintery - dark, with candles to make it look pretty romantic. Wooden furniture and floor, with random farming stuff on the walls. The little booths are nice, so I liked the atmosphere.
Starters were good, with healthy portions. Pate was good quality, while the artichoke was also good. The steak I had for the main was pretty high quality, though perhaps a little overcooked for the medium rare that I ordered. Good sauce and accompaniments of green beans and peas though.
Desserts weren't great though. Fairly bland chocolate pot and a slightly plasticky treacle tart. Might try the apple pie next time though. Service was a little surly, though pretty attentive.
Overall, it seems a little expensive for what it is, but I liked it, so will go back.

Maggie Jones's offers an English flavour on the menu.
It's dark, so be warned, you may need a torch or candle to read the menu.
The food was pretty good;as described by the menu.
However, watch out for the house wine. It is served in an unlabelled bottle and the waiter seemed a little perplexed as to its origins. The bottle is no less than 1.5 litres and you either buy the whole bottle or have it by the glass. The wine did not seem to have the usual alcoholic affect and did taste somewhat watery........

One of the treats we enjoy when we're in London is dinner at Maggie Jones and we looked forward to an evening at the end of April. Boy, what a surprise -- the waiter from hell! From his sneer because we asked him to explain an item on the chalk board to dessert, literally tossed on the table. Not sure we'll be back.

Its a tourist trap..
old dry flowers and a royal connection will sucker them in all the time..
we had a dry piece of chicken and overcooked beef and roast potatoes likes bricks..
save your money and head for the nearest gastro pub.

We've been to Maggie Jones every trip to London since we were giddy and young and shopping at Biba around the corner. We may not be fair judges as each new visit brings back happy memories of others. The traditional British fare may seem a little passe today, but there was a time when British cooking was abysmal. Maggie Jones showed what a difference fresh and seasonal ingredients could make. Also, if you are in London but not able to get out of town, an evening at Maggie Jones will transport you to the countryside.

My family and i went maggie jones last week and had one of the nicest experiances to date. The food is well cooked simple fare. The staff are polite and attentive. The fillet steak is probably the best i've ever eaten. The apple crumble and ice cream reminded me of my youth. The last review doesn't make any sense. People should get a life!!!!!!!! I'll be returning to Maggies soon..
