Went to this place last night after a recommendation. Seemed very good to me, though not perfect. The look is very rustic and wintery - dark, with candles to make it look pretty romantic. Wooden furniture and floor, with random farming stuff on the walls. The little booths are nice, so I liked the atmosphere.

Starters were good, with healthy portions. Pate was good quality, while the artichoke was also good. The steak I had for the main was pretty high quality, though perhaps a little overcooked for the medium rare that I ordered. Good sauce and accompaniments of green beans and peas though.

Desserts weren't great though. Fairly bland chocolate pot and a slightly plasticky treacle tart. Might try the apple pie next time though. Service was a little surly, though pretty attentive.

Overall, it seems a little expensive for what it is, but I liked it, so will go back.

Maggie Jones's offers an English flavour on the menu.

It's dark, so be warned, you may need a torch or candle to read the menu.

The food was pretty good;as described by the menu.

However, watch out for the house wine. It is served in an unlabelled bottle and the waiter seemed a little perplexed as to its origins. The bottle is no less than 1.5 litres and you either buy the whole bottle or have it by the glass. The wine did not seem to have the usual alcoholic affect and did taste somewhat watery........

One of the treats we enjoy when we're in London is dinner at Maggie Jones and we looked forward to an evening at the end of April. Boy, what a surprise -- the waiter from hell! From his sneer because we asked him to explain an item on the chalk board to dessert, literally tossed on the table. Not sure we'll be back.

Its a tourist trap..

old dry flowers and a royal connection will sucker them in all the time..

we had a dry piece of chicken and overcooked beef and roast potatoes likes bricks..

save your money and head for the nearest gastro pub.

We've been to Maggie Jones every trip to London since we were giddy and young and shopping at Biba around the corner. We may not be fair judges as each new visit brings back happy memories of others. The traditional British fare may seem a little passe today, but there was a time when British cooking was abysmal. Maggie Jones showed what a difference fresh and seasonal ingredients could make. Also, if you are in London but not able to get out of town, an evening at Maggie Jones will transport you to the countryside.

My family and i went maggie jones last week and had one of the nicest experiances to date. The food is well cooked simple fare. The staff are polite and attentive. The fillet steak is probably the best i've ever eaten. The apple crumble and ice cream reminded me of my youth. The last review doesn't make any sense. People should get a life!!!!!!!! I'll be returning to Maggies soon..

It was truly an unfortunate decision by my friend to hold her birthday lunch at Maggie Jones today. The food was truly, truly terrible, inedible even. The 'sunday roast' was bland, overcooked and overpriced. The gravy was tasteless and mud-like, the potatoes were probably re-heated and inedible. The dessert were like oversized school dinner puddings and almost everyone left food on their plates. It was possibly the worst dining experience my wife and I have ever lived through. In addition to this the wine arrived towards the end of the main course and the waiter even had the nerve to critisise us for confusing him into ordering 4 bottles when we were simply chasing the first several times, 'but you now have four bottles upstairs now', upstairs? Really, our wine is upstairs, why, surely it should be on our table...

There are many, many great pubs that will serve much better british food than this restaurant and in a far more authentic atmosphere. This is simply unacceptable.

The interior may be charming and cosy and all romantic and things, but the food is completely ordinary and very very expensive. Meals come aparently 'plonked' onto plates with no thought for presentation. Stuffed roast chicken was effectively half a carcas in isolation on a plate with stuffing that eventually became reachable only after the corpse had been intirely dismantled. Crab and asparagus tart was a giant slice of a muddy brown, indistinguishable substance that had clearly been reheated and not to a decent temperature. My fish pie arrived cold in the middle, it was sent back but by the time it returned I had filled up on everyone elses's generous (but unwanted) dollops of dreary food to my bare plate. When my dinner re-emerged the spoon remained exactly as i had left it, mid-pie when it went back to the kitchen. They had just bunged the whole thing back in't oven until pretty much the end of our meal. They did have the decency to remove my pie from the bill, but if I hadn't been out with the boyfriend's mum and trying not to cause a scene, I would have sent everything back . Kedgeree was perhaps the most lingering meal and not in a nice sense. The dried up, reheated, peculiar combination of tastes and lumps tasted poor at first mouthful and was best left at one mouthful, but the rest of the night was spent still tasting the smoked fish. The prices are ridiculous for what you get and you have to order lots of side dishes if you actually want to feel like you are having some kind of meal. We didn't even bother with puddings, so disappointed were we with the main event. I am stunned that this restaurant seems so popular and bemused that anyone would return there after the initial visit.

I have been twice to Maggie Jones and was impressed both times. Both the food and the atmosphere are beautiful. Though the prices are on the high side, its totally worth it for a special occasion or if you've got the cash to spend - if I did I'd be there every week!
