Went here on Sunday night and though the service was good and the pizza tasty, my carbonara was extremely salty. I thought £64 for two was toppy for the food and wine we had. Has to be said it is slightly typical of Notting Hill restaurants trading off their location

I hate being over critcal, but my last experiences with Mediterraneo have been depressing. The manager treats you like if he had ten better things to do. Food is very average, and mostly pre-cooked, just that is compensated by extra salt and a lot of very bad olive oil.
As an Italian, I don't consider this an acceptable restaurant anymore, which is very sad as it used to be a very friendly place to go. To me it has lost its appeal somtetimes over the summer 2006.
In fairness, I would not bother go there anymore to convince myself that it is still good. It is time to move on.

I go there every Saturday for lunch with my wife and children. The food is relatively expensive but is always consistent: I know what I am going to get and the standard - which is quite good -has not really varied from the first time we went about 3 years ago.
We have never had a problem with the service. In fact there are three waiters (2 male, 1 Brazilian female) who are particularly friendly and helpful. There are a couple who do have long faces but still serve you well and promptly. The manager has also always been quite pleasant.
I would recommend Mediterraneo, as well as it's sister restaurant - Essenza - just down the road without hesitation.

I would disagree totally with the negative comments regarding the food - this is one of our favourite restaurants in Notting Hill, perhaps slightly overpriced (where isn't in London?) and yes, the tables are quite close together, but the fact that the place is always packed is testament to its popularity. My boyfriend and I have been back many times and have NEVER had a bad experience. The food is always fresh, tasty and promptly served by waiters who are brisk but friendly and unobtrusive. The portions are just the right size to manage three courses comfortably; the pasta is excellent but so is the seafood and fish. I have taken friends there on many occasions and we have always had a fun, relaxed evening. There is a diverse crowd and always a good atmosphere. Definitely recommended.

Really poor, really really poor. I should, with it being a restaurant and all, talk about how bad the food was but, I don’t want to think about it. Instead let me tell you about the fact that half way through our wine order the waiter (who later pretended to be the manager) walked off to chat to his mate outside. We sat through the starter hoping that the main course would be better but alas, it was worse. I then told them that I didn’t want a free meal but I just had to tell them that I thought the food was not up to scratch for £17.50 a main course. What I wanted to say was that what was served up to us was not fit for UN food drops, but I didn’t. To my amazement the waiter (who at this point was now pretending to be the manager) who towered over us like Ivan Drago from Rocky IV, when hearing our complaint replied….And? I would use my real name but I don’t know who owns this terrible establishment and I might end up with an undercooked, deep fried, cheese sodden, horse’s head in my bed. Enough said, this is by far the worst restaurant I am likely ever to go to. Oh and thank you to the Portuguese woman that was sat on the next table who joined in and sided with the pretend manager, really nice touch.

I really don't want to complain, but oh dear, this is by far the worst place we've ever been to. Even when we tried to be diplomatic about some really bad food, we became involved in some worryingly questionable discourse.(EDIT) Unfortunately the people that pretend to run the place are very much in the same league. If in doubt, smother it with cheese. I gave it three out of five so it wasn't taken off the board. It is bad.

It is difficult for me to still consider Mediterraneo a truly good Italian restaurant. Food is recently way below average and the service is bad and rushed at best. Most of the specialties are over seasoned and quite heavy. Would not come back for sometime

Mediterraneo needs to go back to its standard. Food is always good but the attitude is disastrous and prices are not justified. Not sure I would reccomend the place for a date

i've been here a few times now and the food is consistently good and the place is consistently packed. there are a few seats by the door which i wouldn't want, and the tables are extremely close together (you could probably eat off your neighbour's plate if you wanted). i would recommend this restaurant to someone who wanted a special night out. they add on 12.5% gratuity.
