Nam Long-Le Shaker

Nam Long has a brilliant atmosphere and cocktails to die for and the boss is quite rude but when you get to know him he is quite nice and entertaining - he's part of going to Nam Long i think

I can only echo others' remarks about poor food and service, and sharp practice on the billing. Seem to rely on punters first having too many of the £8.60 cocktails in the adjoining bar to care.
There are much better and more reasonable places to enjoy Vietnamese food in London.

We went here last week and the service was appauling, the food average and the cocktails were in no way like any cocktails I have had before (so far away from cocktails - I think I would call them alcohol swished in a glass with an umbrella put on the side to look pretty).
After our bad meal, service and drinks - we decided only to pay 10% of the 15% service charge they added onto the bill. (Although I don't think they deserved any of it) They (openly) yelled at us telling us that 'we will remember your face' and 'you are never welcome here again'. To which I thought - 'hmm don't worry, I will not be back.'

the cocktails were to die for, the service was friendly and charming. the food was tasty, I've eaten better but the atmostphere is amazing, and I would return again many times even only for a drink. the nam long is a recognised experienced cocktail bar, and it lived up to all the expectations.

What a coincidence we ve just been there with a couple of friends yestreday as well and we had more or less the same problem!
The food has nothing special, there was 2 tables in the restaurant and the waitresses were already too busy but i think the place is funny and original.

I haven't read the previous reviews about Nam Long but we went there yesterday, I can confirm that this is an outrageously expensive restaurant for the food we get.
On top of that, the final bill was £256 (for 7 people) and they didn't give the details. I have asked to see the details and then the bill went down to £201. I have already read reviews about wrong prices in Nam Long.
There're already reviews about the food and the wine, so I don't need to add comment about the poor service we get.

Don't eat here. The average food was served in tiny portions. Not the Vietnamese cuisine advertised (they didn't even have Pho). The wait staff was apathetic at best. They tried to clear before we were finished and after we had finished they took a half hour to get the bill. And the most outrageous... they had a mandatory service charge of 15% for a party of two that they informed us was stated on the tacky menu. When we said we didn't want to pay nobody spoke English well enough to discuss it. Overall, horrible value for money.

This restaurant is tired, the menu is confused and a mish-mash of cuisines. The waiting staff were fine but the worst thing was the wine list. A bottle, which turned out to be unavailable of Wither Hills Sav Blanc at £30 which you can pick up on the high street for around £6. Frankly it is an insult. I would go elsewhere.

This used to be a favourite hang out of mine in the early '90s and I returned with a group of friends for cocktails and a long drawn out dinner recently.
It hasn't really changed - yes I agree that the Mai Tai is a rip off at about £8 or £9 for mainly crushed ice, but you go there for the atmosphere and the clientele, with the intention of having a good and extravagant night out. The food is good, the cocktails are mostly good and if you want bar snacks these are available. The clientele are mostly local Euro bankers and their crowd, plenty of louche Sloanes, the odd potentate/yacht owner who looks like he doesn't need to work anymore and worryingly, a few old acquaintances of mine who look like they should have been long since tucked up in the shires - or in bed ! Try to come here in a party of at least four fun friends and leave your money worries at home - you are bound to have a good time, but you need to have the right attitude. The owner still runs this place hands-on after all these years - he seems daunting and rude at first, but once you get used to him he is very much part of the entertainment.
