Re the previous reviewers: guys you've really missed it. Scalini in Walton Street Knightsbridge is a fabulous restaurant frequented by mostly Knightsbridge regulars, movie stars and other celebs. It is one of my favourite haunts. The staff can be a little indifferent in their humour but I am sur it is not intended to offend. Mario is a great host and I defy yu to find a better high quality Italian Restaurant in the neighbourhood. My guests and I have always had a terriffic time there and I can't wait to go again. Don't be put off by these negative reviews.

I'm sorry but I have to agree with the negative views. The service is appalling as the staff are hurried, rude & just not interested in good customer service. Plus, when you ask for something they whisper some comment under their breath, which is also extremely rude, as though you are inconveniencing them!

The food was very average, bordering on poor and it was very over priced. The only good thing was the wine but luckily the restaurant doesn't make the wine!!!

When we left I made my comments to the owner/manager & he was as rude as the staff, almost telling us to go somewhere else in future, which we will gladly do.

I will never go to this restaurant again & I would advise everyone else to avoid it to save disappointment.

I dined at Scalini's last night with seven friends, we had a great evening. The menu is extensive and all the food was superb, The staff were attentive without being intrusive. The owners were mingling amongst the diners.The restaurant was fully booked and had a great atmosphere and we would certainly love to dine there again. Do not be put off by negative reviews on this site, I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Had lunch there today. Great food with fantastic service. Portion is so big - I didn't eat dinner and had doggy bag!

Lobster with pasta, warmed avocado with crab & calves liver with butter & sage were all lovely. We will def go back again.

I'll preface this by stating I'm from Sydney where we have some of the best Italian restaurants outside of Italy. I cannot believe this 'restaurant' was packed on a Monday night, let alone any night. The service was patchy, the food was absolutely woeful, the worst type of old fashioned Italian (read: cream and gravies), Both my friend's veal chop and my lamb cutlets, while ordered medium, but were rare, though having waited half an hour for them, we weren't about to send them back. The very average, but quite expensive Chianti was warm and slightly "cooked", but not worth the fight if we'd sent it back. BUT, the most galling part was the fine print. £2.5 cover charge, obligatory vegetable sides, the right to charge for extra parmesan! By comparison, I went to Latium (Berners St) last week and it was virtually the opposite - wonderful. Modern and considered recipes, deftly handled flavour combinations, a considered and reasonably priced wine list (though we did have white this night, so I can't vouch for the reds), sublime though attentive service and best of all a fixed 2 or 3 course price, albeit with the normal supplements. We walked away extremely happy. At Scalini, I felt gouged, not gorged. Rubbish.

There's no doubt that if you're looking for value for money, you may want to look elsewhere. While Scalini has everything going for it, low costs are not one of them.

I have eaten many times at Scalini, and have never experienced anything less than absolute pleasure and utter satisfaction. Yes, it’s loud and busy and constantly rushed – but hey, it’s Italian.

The heartiest endorsement comes not from me, but from its repeated and ongoing patronage. Scalini is as busy on Tuesday lunchtime as a Friday night, with a menu that has remained unchanged since its inception, and this speaks volumes for the continued excellence it serves.

Scalini exemplifies everything Italian and proudly sits as the quintessential dining experience. Just make sure you’ve got deep pockets; it ain’t cheap.

Anyone who thinks this is "the best Italian restaurant in the country" cannot eat out much in Italian restaurants. My rognoncini were tough and overcooked and we were charged £7.50 each plus service for vegetables which we did not order and did not want on top of a Cover charge of £2.50 each plus service and the "Service" was indifferent. never again.

Finest Italian restaurant in the country. Not a lot else to add been going there for the last 16 years can't say I have anything to complain in that many years. I am sorry some people had a bad experience but I find it hard to believe it is true from my past experience.
