This place is a one of a kind when it's not really busy. I'm not a member but as a guest I really enjoyed being there. It used to be better but still the quality of their beverages is state of the art. I cannot say the same for their other services. The only problem with this place is the mismanagement or lacking of care and attention by its owner.

Just a bit crap really ... a bit 90s / sex in the city crowd ... blah blah blah, boring. girls talk about the "fabulous" new shoes they bought, men talk about skiing.

As other have said, the staff only give you attitude if you give them attitude. And London is even more full of that than New York. We found them very professional and nice people.
Good drinks. Great music. Cool place.
However, as many have said, the rules are a joke. Not followed at all. My date and I were seated at a tiny table near the bar, with our heads about six inches apart. We couldn't hear each other talking. Indeed, we couldn't hear ourselves think, over the raucous uproar and "hooting and hollering" from the pompous MediaWymyn around the premises. If the rules aren't enforced, get rid of them, as they are gratuitously pretentious in an otherwise nice place. (I'd prefer them being enforced though... The whole 'speakeasy' thing is a bit underwhelming when accompanied by drunk slags cackling away. Speakeasy indeed!)

Great venue although a little dark and a little cold. Nice concept but pretentious,
However, the drinks are amazing and the atmosphere when I've been is usually is relaxed and intimate. A great place to go if you've had a tough week at work and want to treat yourself. Not a great place to go with lots of friends.
Food was skimpy

This bar seems to attract pretty mixed opinions. I've been a few times as a non-member for drinks early evening before heading on elsewhere. Cocktails are extremely well made (one of the best, coldest and driest Martinis I've had anywhere with a great choice of vodkas and gins). Prices are also very reasonable and cheaper than far worse cocktail bars.
The atmosphere is a slightly strange one. Staff are courteous, quiet and professional; service is slow (I'm sorry, but 20 minutes to wait for four cocktails when the bar is half empty really is very slow even if the cocktails are great); the lighting really is incredibly low and the swing/ jazz music subdued. The place walks a very fine line between a wonderfully retro speak-easy and a haven from the swarming bedlam of Soho and a smug self-congratulatory little cocktail bar which loves itself a bit too much. I suspect this is why reviews are a bit all over the place.
Personally, maybe because I'm getting old, I like it purely because you get a place to sit and talk and drink great cocktails if you can be bothered to book in advance.

I am a member and a New Yorker. Living in SOHO, this is the only place I feel comfortable visiting. The darkness reminds me of sophisticated drinking bars in NYC. I have always thought that going into a pub or bar in London is more like going to an Amusement park or worse yet, a Community Center. The drinks are reasonably priced and I find they are often cheaper than other West End establishements. The quality is top notch and thank god they don't serve cranberry juice. The folks at MnH have stood by their laurels and have made it work. For those who don't MnH, thats fine. There are plenty of brightly lit, cookie cutter bars for them to go to.

Some of the comments on here are hilarious - e.g. Vish below. God, there are some jumped kids in London. This is the kind of place you would like if you thought Clapham was cool. Enough said.

I have been to a few members only bars before, but never have I felt that the best part of the evening was leaving the building!
The rules are completely over the top, you can get the same drinks down your local bar for a third the price, and the food portions are made for all these pretentious size 0s!

I am a member, and have been for about 3 years. Let me first tackle the criticism. Yes, the ground floor might be seen as a little dark, in fact I have tripped over a stool there, of course not realising it was fixed to the floor! However, you can either see this as a negative, or as I do a positive; it adds abience and is great for a date. Now we have the basement, big tables, perfect if you've got a lot of friends that wish to sample the best cocktails in London, in a very chilled environment. Now, if you're a member you get access to the next 2 floors. The red room has extremely comfy chairs and sofas, and has access to some of the best wines, and I've never met a person in there that I wouldn't be happy to have in my home. Finally, there is the games room - it's got a plasma, iPod docks, decks, sofas, and it's free for members to hire!

Excellent cocktails and great service but the thing that makes this bar killer is the atmosphere. So incredibly relaxed, you really feel comfortable. Bloody hard to find. Even with the street name we walked past it twice and only found it by calling them. I count that as a good thing though, means it doesnt fill up with idiots.
The people that left bad reviews much have either been very unlucky or very rude as I have experienced nothing but the best from this bar.
