Last Thursday at any rate the food, service and atmosphere were great - reminded me of St John without the funny money prices and the offal machismo. Really good news amidst all the Lordship Lane pretension. Will go again and again.

Have only ever had great experiences here - when you suddenly realise it's been 3 hours since you sat down to eat, the staff are still smiling at you, and you've just polished off an evily good chocolate fondant - you know you've had a top night. Fabulous seasonal British menu and faultless service.

I enjoyed once again a faultless sirloin and bearnaise at Franklins restaurant, by far the best around. The chocolate pot too, is to die for. More of the same please!

The first time we tried Franklins for dinner it was excellent. The calves heart was perfectly cooked and my friend's hake fillet was fresh and had a lovely texture. Puddings were good old fashioned British fare and a satusfying end to the meal. Encouraged, a group of 5 of us went to have lunch on Bank Holiday Monday. It was all going too well until the syllabub we ordered turned out to be a generous swirl of rancid whipped cream. The waiter sniffily assurred us that it was meant to taste like that. My ratings for the place has therefore gone from 8/10 to 3/10. What a shame.

Reading the many other rave reviews of this restaurant has only left me feeling more disappointed. I had heard about franklins from a few different sources & was fully expecting a slap-up meal. I went with my partner for a romantic saturday night meal, but were seated on a table that was so close to the kitchen we might as well have been in it. The starters were good and quite tasty however my main course of duck was the dryest food I have ever eaten. It was completely inedible & my partner's steak was average at best. I love food but I wouldn't be able to recommend this place to anyone i'm afraid.

We love Franklins, by far one of the best restaurants in town. Great atmosphere, good food, exquisite wine for reasonable prices, and lovely service. We eat here regularly, and it's never disappointing
