The food, wine, atmosphere and service were all superlative. Plenty of choice (but vegetarians might be initially fooled, as veg dishes are listed as sides which can be doubled up to mains - i ordered 3 veg sides instead and they were all great.) For us 4 people, 3 course meal with plenty of wine & water came in at £47 per head. I'll be coming here again.

Errr... this place is good, but certainly not amazing in any way. Lovely interior and decent service. Food was fine, but had nothing of the wow factor. No vegetraian main courses, which was poor. Meal for 7 with alcohol came to £315 so fair price. That's what it is - a fair place.

An excellent all round package, attentive service, really nice busy atmosphere, top quality food apart from the odd drab starter - avoid them if in dumpling form! (rabbit and chicken i think).

I went here the other week and it was absolutely superb on all counts. I don`t really know why everyone keeps mentioning the price, a stones throw from the river in the heart of Chelsea and some of the largest portions of exceptional food presented very well. For some reason I`ve been on a bit of a tour of Indians of late, Rasoi Vineet, Zaika, Amaya and Cinnamon club all good, if a bit poncey but all much more expensive. 4 people, 4 starters, 4 mains, 1 desert, a few large Cobras and the biggest sea bass portion I have ever seen..£135 all in. This place deserves to get busier and busier. And one day maybe I will have room for desert.

WOW, what a meal, Lamb Chops to start followed by the most amazing Black Cod! The whole meal was just great, fantastic surroundings, we ate early on a Saturday night so it was a bit quite but getting busy as we left around 8. Cost for the 3 of us was £130 but we all had starters and main courses and a few Cobras.

This is a fabulous discovery. It's not cheap (the bill for two with starters, main and house white came to £72, but it was worth every penny) but then its not your average curry house, but a smart restaurant.

I was blown away by the divine aubergine paneer and black dal was better than what I eat in Bombay! The only let down was that the spinach and sweetcorn dish was heavy on the spices.

My friends rock shrimp was amazing and his portion of black cod was the largest I have seen served in the London. All in all, this has to be one of the best indian restaurants in London. Youe should definetely try this place out.

If you're looking for inventive, original and out-of-the-ordinary indian food, this is definitely the place. Prices are higher than your standard curry house, though firstly the standard of food is more than good enough to justify them, and secondly, servings are generous enough so starter and main course are more than enough. Try the crab dosa in particular.

One thing though - don't go expecting formality of service in proportion to the prices. The style is much more like a classic indian restaurant than a swish chelsea brasserie. This is fine with me, but others may disagree. Finally, this place is justifiably popular, so do book, and don't be surprised to wait if you arrive early.

A very well run restaurant with a pleasant service. The food was great and portions very generous. The fixed menu is a great deal. The ambience is is just right. one of the best indians I've been to. Desrves a Michelin.

I am usually not a big fan of Indian food but I was really impressed by the quality of the "New Indian cuisine" and ambiance as well as the kindness of the staff at the Painted Heron.

Portions are huge and I was very sad about not being able to finish...

The decor and service are simple and effective.

I cannot wait to go go back!

Best Classical read as 'posh' curry I have ever tasted. Shame about location, slightly off the beaten track. The only complaint (and I wasn't alone here) is that after we had eaten, we all wanted to start eating again but our full stomachs said no; so, so weak. ;o)
