I was recommended this place by a friend and my god was I disappointed. From the offstart, the man who I assume - heaven knows why - is the manager was rude, obnoxious and clearly oblivious to the importance of good service. Although the food was undeniably good (give or take the fact that the bacon on my burger was near charred), the experience was utterly ruined by the ignorant manager. When I returned to my friend with my verdict, she replied "Oh god sorry I forgot to warn you about him" - which says it all! The good news, however, is that she has kindly informed me that he does not work nights! So at least I can return to have another of their delicious milkshakes without fear of him terrifying my children once again...

We visited on a Friday night and had a great meal. I had the blue cheese burger - very tasty and perfectly cooked - one of the best burgers I've had. Great combination of fresh ingredients and the cheese was really good quality not the usual fake blue cheese cream that some other restaurants use. Chips were good although admittedly not great. The sundaes looked fantastic although we were too full to have one. Price wise we paid the same if not less than what we spend at Byron or GBH and the quality of our meal was better.

Service was brilliant - attentive and friendly.

I love the decor of the place, the music and the atmosphere, lots of locals who seemed to know each other. Will definitely be back.

The evening had not started well, after a punishing 8K run in the gym I was looking forward to catching up with the boys for a few beers and a bite to eat. However I hadn't counted on a signal failure taking out the whole Central Line. This meant there were 100's of people trying to get on my bus so I resigned myself to a long cold walk. By the time I met up with the others at the Prince Albert I was famished and thirsty. We had a quick couple of pints and headed up to "Lucky Seven" to see if fortune would smile on us and we would get a table.

I've been to Lucky Seven a few times over the years. The concept is quite simple, a typical US diner doing classic breakfasts and fast foods. The big problem with "Lucky 7" is it is tiny so getting a table is pot luck. We were lucky last night and got seated straight away. The menu is basic so Big Matt and Villa Steve had the bacon double cheeseburger and I went for the chilli cheeseburger. We washed these down with a selection of quite exhorbitant bottled beers (£4.50 each, ouch!).

I had always been a big fan of the burgers here but was interested to re-appraise it in view of the numerous specialist burger joints that have sprung up since it opened 7 or 8 years ago. My burger seemed smaller than I remember, it tasted OK but no fireworks. The last GBK I had was probably better. It came with a miserly portion of coleslaw, £7.95 well spent! We shared a side portion of good onion rings (6 rings in total, not very generous) and some decent french fries.

The bill came to about £16 each which for what we had was a bit toppy. I was still hungry when I left. The service was good, nice and informal. I do feel they have missed a trick with this place instead of expanding the diner next door they have created a tacky Mexican place (the food is cooked in the Lucky 7 kitchen as well) . I also was not terribly impressed with how near the toilets were to the kitchen. All in all I felt a little bit fleeced, this could be a lot better than it is and certainly the razzamatazz of when it first opened has faded.

There is nowhere in London which does a more authentic take on a real American diner. But ultimately this place, which promises so much, is a complete let down. The burgers are invariably obliterated as if the victim of a pre-emptive nuclear strike- so end up being a dry and unsatisfying eat. This despite the claim that the meat is organic, single estate 100% Aberdeen Angus. What a waste.

Previous reviewers have commented on the guy who runs this place. I could never understand why attitude-laden, boho service was accepted as part of Notting Hill's edgy charm. He is a walking disaster - rude, surly and spectacularly unconcerned with your well-being. You have been warned.

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 - The patties are made from Aberdeen Angus (byword and all) chuck and wonderfully seasoned. Once again my burger was cooked medium well but utterly forgivable every time because of its rather delicious mouthfuls... Lunch for one came to more than fifteen quid so it's hardly a place for the masses but the burgers served here are good enough for a thumbs-up approval.
