Sumosan has been one of the worst dining experiences that my partner and I have ever had.

Last Friday, we booked a table for 2 at 10.00 pm. We arrived at 9.55pm and we were told to wait in front of the coat room for our table to be ready. We waited for more than half hour. When requested our table, we were told that they were extremely busy (!) and we should continue waiting. We finally got seated; the table was missing a leg and kept on dancing. We asked for it to be fixed (10.45pm). The waitress came to take the order and we asked for the tasting menu, she couldn’t answer what was in it, and she went to the kitchen to ask. When she finally came back (10.55pm), she said that the kitchen was closed for the tasting menu, as they close at 10.30.

Given the treatment received and the fact that we could not have the food we wanted due to the restaurant’s negligence, we spoke to the manager and he was not helpful, he seemed not to know what was going on in his restaurant and didn’t provide any solution to the situation not any interest in taking care of his clients.

We use to go out dining very often and we enjoy a good restaurant. It has been the first time that we walked away from one without having had dinner.

I went in a group of 7 for a birthday dinner. Definietly not one of the best Japanese restaurants in London. The decor is good, modern and chic, very New York in style, however it was really cold, so not only did we want to keep our coats on all night but our food got cold very quickly.

I am a huge fan of Japanese cuisine and don't mind the hefty price tag that can go along with it if the food is really good (as Japanese food should be). The bill was huge and the food was average. Being a large table we tried most things on the menu. The wagyu beef could have been from anywhere as there was nothing great about it and we weren't even sure it was actually wagyu, it was tasteless.

Don't get me wrong, some of the dishes we ordered were good, like the dover sole basket for instance and the seared tuna but other dishes were just ok.

The service was cold and unfriendly, however the somelier was helpful and pleasant and suggested some lovely wines.

I went there last week for a business dinner. The service was a bit cold and indifferent, but the food was totally incredible. The waiters were rather aloof and snooty which is a shame because it will put some people off. The food was the best Japanese I have eaten. The 'round' lobster salad looks and tastes amazing, the miso aubergine to die for and the yellowfin tuna I could eat all night. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the Japanese pizza ... maybe it was an acquired taste. I had dinner with some big Californian executives and they thought the food was the best they had tatsted anywhere - and they are hard to please! Go there and see for yourself.

One of the worst Japanese restaurants in London and yet one of the most expensive (we paid £200 for 2 people and were there just over one hour.) The Tepanyaki was particularly bad ...

I agree with reviews about the service. The waiters can be slightly abrupt, the guys at the sushi bar are not particularly friendly/helpful/engaging.

We had some sashimis to start (Yellowtail, salmon toro etc). The quality of the fish was pretty good, though they were so cold that they tasted slightly clinical without much "flavour". I have had better sashimi in Defune, Miyama and even Nobu at times. The toro was a little too chewy and not "melt in the mouth". However the rolls were very tasty, although I have a suspicion that they contain some ajinomoto (oriental MSG) because my partner and I were so thirsty the whole evening. The sushi is served with very little rice, and as I'm very picky about sushi rice (Flavour, texture, density etc.) I thought the rice here wasn't exemplary. OK, but not good enough to justify the prices. Miso soup was of a darker and saltier variety, perfectly good, but still not "Fantastic". But then it isn't that great at Nobu either. I think this polace is probably better for their more "unusual" untraditional dishes, liek the Yellowtail with truffles etc. They even have Okkonomiyaki, which is Japanese-style pizza which you don't get often in London Japanese restaurants. I'll go back and try some moreunusual dishes, but save your money for better sashimi elsewhere.

Super super super!

Great sushi, Albemarle Roll was so good I could have ordered a plate of just that! The Black cod was perfect. The service was friendly, however next to us there was a table of (American) business men who had problems with the service and all the fuss and commotion did start to grate on me! Two bottles of beer in the space of ten minutes had spilled over two of the diners - but it was not the fault of the waiter but that of the rather large gentleman diner. He had that rather annoying posture of the uncouth and sat with his elbow sticking out making it particularly awkward for the waiter to get to the table. Despite his disgusting language and manners our experience at Sumosan was lovely. It was also refreshing to see a family with young children being welcomed and given great service as many top london restaurants snub the inlusion of children at the dinner table!

Great Japansese place. Incredible sushi combinations such as maki with truffle etc...The fish quality is great therefore you have to try sashimi salads.

I love this place, it is quite expensive but the sushi is better then at NOBU!!!
