The Waterway is my favourite hangout in Maida Vale. The vibe is so relaxed by the canal and the staff are really cool. I love the new cocktail menu - especially the alcoholic milkshakes and the food never fails to impress. I would advise eating indoors in the restaurant if you're looking for more fine dining though as outdoors can get very busy!

Very poor service with careless and rude staff, which is a pity as location is lovely and food is nice. Wine list could also be improved.

The place to be. Another great showcase for London. Cool people, nice food and friendly service are in my opinion what make this bonafied Gastro Pub a good place to hang out, especially in the summer on a cool evening. Located in the heart of Maida Vale.
Love it! - Love it! - Love it !

Good pub food, nice location. Waiters a bit slow, but ready to accomodate food specifications. Will go again for a casual dinner at the pub !

I ve been to the waterway a few times ,wearing casual clothes ,didnt need to be dressed up to go there for a drink or even for a meal but today i went there with my boy friend and the security guy told us that we couldnt get in because he was wearing a track suit bottom .....but people inside were all wearing very very casual clothes (i have even seen some wearing track suits)it s sunday and its a bar restaurant .what are you supposed to wear ?
I have been to fancy and luxurious places before and the waterway is not one it s just a normal bar retaurant and there s no dress code for that kind of places.
It s a nice place just make sure your dressed properly!! what a joke !!

What at splendid evening we had. I reserved a table for three for 8pm last Wednesday. On arrival we were seated in the bar for beers while waiting for one of my friends who was late. The choice of beers was plentiful and the staff did not rush us to hurry up and take our seats.
When my third guest arrived we were allowed to sit in the bar and then be seated at our leisure. We go a nicely positioned table and were treated like we were the only diners in the whole building, none of that rushed dining that you get in so many places!
I had chicken confit, fois gras and prune roulade to start, braised lamb, (which was succulent), for the main and the mostly delicious British cheese I have ever tasted. (I strongly recommend the Oxford Isis for you cheese lovers.) All the food was faultless and one of the best takes on a British menu I have tasted. My friends had different food and they both took sweet desserts. After much begging them to let me try the food, they agreed. I can say that their food was also top-notch!
I would suggest having the desert wines with your final course, as the choice the waiter suggested was spot-on!
Throughout the evening the staff was wonderfully pleasant and the rosemary bread was promptly handed out when we asked for more. The cost of the whole meal was not too hefty either. The whole evening was well worth the trek from South London. I strongly recommended this place and I will definitely be going there again, for more food or just the great beers and wines.

A really good recommendation!
I went with a group of friends, we had reserved but came with more then expected... The restaurant manager was totally cool and arranged seats for all of us.
We all had three courses and it was just a joy! the food was outstanding, we all chose different starters, mains and desserts and shared some... I really need to go back soon! The duck was so juicy and well seasoned it was amazing!
Service wise, our waitress was a true delight! always close by and keeping an eye on us. The bread - here to mention! - was delicious! We were told they buy it locally, which I think is really cute.... and we always had enough of everything.
Nobody ever ran dry and all of our dishes came at the same time!
Summing it up, it was just great and I am sure we will be back very soon.
Thanks to the waterway for such a great evening!!

Dreadful service.
Having been to this restaurant many many times, we booked for a group of friends who were visiting London. There were two children in the group aged 11 and 9...having seen a childs menu on their website I didnt think it would be a problem. How wrong I was ! When we arrived at 8 pm, we were told we had to be gone by 9.30 because of the kids. Ok I was annoyed but figured we would be done by then.
The main courses were not great, one was burnt and had to be sent back. White wine was warm, had to ask for ice twice...but the worst bit was at 9.20. at this stage we had had our desserts and coffee and were about to ask for the bill. the manageress comes over and asks us to leave with a long explanation of their rules re kids. i explained that we were waiting for bill, and that we would then leave. She persisted. My husband complained that she should have spoke to him as the booking was in his name...we were both very embarassed at this service in front of our friends.

I have been to the Waterway approx 8 times or more. I have found it to be very good ..until last night. Friends of ours were in town with their children aged 8 and 11, both of whom are extremely well behaved and used to eating in restaurants. We booked the table 6 weeks prior to yesterday for 8 people. I had taken note of the kids menu that is on their website. When we arrived at 8 pm we were told that the children would have to be off the premises by 9.30 in the restaurant. We were a bit upset by this as we had dined out the night before till 11 in Aphrodite and it was not a problem. Food in the Waterway was ok, the chicken goujons were burnt and had to be sent back. White wine was not cold and we had to put ice into it. At no point did they offer to change it. We had main courses and desert and were watching the clock..we had noticed a female manager watching us. She then came over to me at 9.20 and told us we would have to leave. I explained that we had finished and that we were leaving if we could have the bill. My husband was very annoyed as the reservation was in his name and she should have spoken to him. I have checked their website again and still cant find the rule about children have to be off the premises at 9.30 and they do promote their kids menus..so we are very annoyed at the way we were treated. We spent a lot of money and we feel that we were treated very badly.
