Waht can i say about this place - it's fantastic!
You can either eat up stairs in the restraunt or down in the cafe. Either way its vibrant and authentic - a true taste of portugal!
In the summer you can sit and watch the world go by on the pavement - which is a nice way to spend an evening!
The food is basic fare - but very well cooked. THis makes it really good! On top of that it all comes at an unbeleivable price.
We ordered four plates of tapas (including a broad bean and pork cassserole that was fantastic - along the lines of a cassoulet), had a bottle of wine, desert, and a whiskey and port (100ml, 10 year old, top quality). The whole thing came to £45!
I would strongly suggest that you check this laid back little piece of Portugal out. Enjoy!
Oh yeah, one last thing.. go for the egg white desert - it's truly stunning!

This typical mediterranean style café is one of South London's hidden gems! Really nice in summer when the doors are opened out on to the street and summer furniture is placed outside in a manner more suited to the Costa del Sol than South Lambeth Road! My friends and I often go here as it is a very relaxed place to eat with friendly service and unbeatable value. It is almost always full and we are often the only english customers - a glowing endorsement from the portuguese customers about the standard of cooking and traditional atmosphere of the Estrela. The food is decent - nothing too special in terms of quality, but the large portions and varied menu ensure a good meal.
Above all, great value for money - with several bottled beers at £1.60 you can eat out for under £10 and leave feeling very satisfied! Not at all bad for a restaurant in zone 1.
Obrigado Estrela!

We have lunch here at the weekend at least once a month, and are rarely disappointed, except by the service, which can be terrible. Authentic and inexpensive Portuguese dishes, with generous servings. The tables outside are pleasant in the summer, and the caldeirada de mariscos (seafood stew) is particularly to be recommended.
