Born in the East End but now living in Bristol this place is still a part of every journey I make to London. True 24 hour dependability, long may it serve us!!!!

Awesome salt beef bagel - huge chunks with a slather of mustard. Worth a detour or maybe as an hors d'oeuvre before a curry?!

If you're from New York, and you think you're about to get the real thing, finally, you'll be mightily disappointed. These beigel things are essentially large soft pretzels in the shape of bagels, which is really what the traditional east-European Jewish "beigels" are supposed to be. But a far cry from H&H. I can't believe no one can do a real H&H bagel in London.
That said, the salted beef beigel is pretty good. The beigel itself kinda compresses in the heat, becoming a gummy mess, but, hey, that's tradition.

Anyone who hasn't tried one of the salt beef, mustard and gherkin bagels is missing out on one of London's finest sandwiches... It's as simple as that.

The first time I tasted bagel from this shop was years ago. Then life got seriously busy for me. But, today a group from my school went to visit the shop and I got stuck with my paper work. One of my colleauges brought back the ones I talked about some time ago and I just took a bite and WHAMMMM!!!!!! All of a sudden I was in heaven. Suddenly I felt, my work wasn't the sole purpose of my life. There was more meaning to life than just papers and classes. One of last standing places of the true Eastend is something not to be missed, unless one tends to turn his/her back to the simplistic meaning of life like me. It will take you away from the rush and the metropolitan life style of the modern day to the good old golden days of our forefathers when people used to enjoy life.

To say this place is a real East End institution is the understatement of the decade. The beigels (not bagels please, as I hear the yuppies ask for them!!) are second to none, onion platzels, chollah bread, pastries and proper baked cheesecake are all delights; and what's more it is fantastic value and never closes. What more could you want? Forget the trappings of nearby Petticoat Lane and Club Row, which live on past glories, this is the one place you should head for when doing your Sunday morning tourist bit. If this place gets bought out or taken over and turned into some sort of pizza/curry/burger joint as has happened with a lot of the old Jewish eateries, then I will give up!!

Absolutely 10/10... or more. This place is obviously a real institution, with freshly prepared beigels piled high on the shelves and the counter stuffed full of cakes and pastries. Every time I go I want to try everything, it all looks so delicious! It's always a real effort to decide. The salt beef beigels at £2.50 are particularly amazing, steaming hot and heavy on the mustard. The cheesecake is also good, though I'd advise letting it warm up a bit first. Great value - one of my favourite places in London!
Only bad thing is there's nowhere to sit but that's part of the charm.
Go there! Now!

Brilliant Beigels and without a doubt the best chocolate fudge cake in the whole world, and hey what do Americans know about food, I mean, what is Macdonalds all about

I don't normally write review for place I've been to etc. But i couldn't resist to give this bakery a 10 out of 10 and leave a comment here. If you don't like this place then i don't think you deserve to eat.
Simply the best

This is a superb place with decent prices. Brings back memories of the east end of the sixties. No frills, just good good food and service. Absolutely fabulous and the women who work there are great! My only hope is that the trendies don't end up taking this over too!
