Cafe Emm

I have been a regular at Cafe Emm for many years, and on the whole have enjoyed the experience, since the food is good and service, when things go well, is good too. However, on my last visit my friend ordered a salad and I ordered a steak. The salad came promptly, but we were left waiting for the steak. The manager came to us after 20 minutes and asked if only one person was eating. I explained I was waiting for a steak. The manager replied that the waitress had not ordered the steak and it would be rectified promptly. We joked about it and I was happy to wait, as mistakes do happen. After another 30 minutes the steak arrived! This was not acceptable, and there was no apology or offer of a complimentary drink, which I think should have been a standard response for poor service. I mentioned to the manager that it would have been nice if he had offered a complimentary drink, but he replied that he had tried and I had not allowed him to! He insisted he would never have left a customer without having offered a complimentary drink. After an argument I asked the manager for the name and address (of the business) of the owner in order to complain. He replied it would not be worth complaining, since he was the manager! He also tried to refuse to supply me with the name and address of the owner, but after I insisted he had to give in. I have written to the owner on Facebook, but after receiving a reply to say that he would investigate and get back to me I have received nothing. I will not be using this restaurant again and after telling friends, who were also regulars, neither will they.

I've been to Cafe Emm a couple of times before and the food was good so I decided to book this restaurant when my friends from abroad came to visit as they wanted to eat British food.

We were 15 of us, and let just say that none of us could finish even half of our food as it was awful. It was bland, greasy, burned. I ordered a medium steak and it came out completely burned and well-done so I told the waiter and he looked at it and said it's suppose to be completely black like that because it's 'flamed grilled'. He refused to take back the dish so I spoke to the manager who was equally rude and just looked at me and said "what do you want?" when I showed her my steak. Also my chips arrived 30 mins after the steak. And one of my friend got her food when every one has finished. The staff and the manager did not once apologies for the numerous mistakes and delays. I've never experienced such terrible service at a restaurant and was so ashamed I took my friends there.

As mentioned, I've been to cafe emm a couple of times before and it was good. I think there must have been change of owner/chef as I didn't recognise any of the staff and it used to be very busy on Sundays, but when we were there, the atmosphere had changed, the restaurant was very empty. It's pretty sad how this great restaurant has turned into something so terrible. I used to recommend this place to people but after the last time, I would not step a foot into this restaurant again.

By the way, this is the first time I've ever written a review, just to give you an idea how bad my experience was at cafe emm.

I am sitting in Cafe Emm at the moment, the reasoning am writing this is that I have been waiting now 1hr for any food. It's a Wednesday. We asked 15 minutes ago where our food was to be told 'you only ordered a shepherds pie' we hadn't, they had lost our order, we reordered, starving, and we're still waiting... Not much of an apology either. We'll see but I'm not holding out much hope.

Love this place, good home cooked favourites and easy on the pocket.

Soho is full of Chinese and Thai..........This is a breath of fresh air also considering Soho is now becoming full of the chain restaurants!

Love the Steak and Ale Pie Too big to finish. my Partner always goes for the Fish and Chips with Mushy peas and Bread and Butter Pudding......

Cheap and cheerful. Good service, food ok, not amazing but not bad, quite a lot of deep fried food on the menu however it is what it is. I would recommend.

Went to CAFE EMM a couple of weeks ago with four girlfriends had a wonderful time the food and service is excellent would recommend this lovely restaurant to anybody looking to eat in SOHO we all will be returning for another great night.
