I just arrived from Carmen. The food was good and service was fine until we asked for the bill. We kept asking for the bill again and again but NOBODY brought the bill. I was there with a disabled friend and it took so long for the bill to arrive that my friend started to have spasms in his legs. It is a shame, it spoiled the evening for us and the manager was trying to be funny about the whole thing! Shame on you!

Carmen is a great place where to find the perfect mixture of eating the best ever, in a dreamed atmosphere with the attention over the expectations. A little embassy with the best of Spain.

Carmen Bar De Tapas was a wonderful find on visiting London this summer. The Spanish run restaurant has a good variety of tasty, authentic Spanish tapas dishes (hot and cold), good value and excellent service. Lovely atmosphere, would recommend.

I have been eating at this restaurant regularly for over 10 years. The food is awesome however the portions have a tendency to be somewhat on the small side. Service is great and you get 2 for 1 on dishes fri - sun b4 6pm. It gets extremely busy between 8 and 10pm so I would advise to get there early to avoid disappointment.

Probably the best Tapas Restaurant in London.
Even though we moved away from Clapham a couple of years ago we keep visiting Carmen.
Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and excelent food.
The sizziling prawns (Gamba all' ajilo) are a must! They also have a wide choise of vegetarian tapas which my husband loves!

Awful service. There were five of us and they tried to squeeze us in on a table of four. My boyf explained that we all had bags so we needed a bigger table.... finally they gave in and said that if the restaurant was busy we would have to vacate. Fine. Only when we arrived we were the only people there and when we left we were the only customers.
So finally settled, we're chatting away to each other and the waiter comes over and speaks, only no one hears him, so we're chattering away when the waiter says: "Hello?? Hello??" He continued to be rude throughout the 40 mins we stayed.
The food was nice - we had a good mix of fish and meat and it was all well-cooked. Bread rolls were the frozen ones you buy in the supermarket so that was a disappointment.
I thought it was expensive- £68 for five tapas, bread, a glass of wine and four beers....

I have visited Carmen on many occassions over the last couple of years, and my visit on this occasion was just as pleasant and welcoming as it always has been.
I have always found the food to be absolutley delicious and the staff very helpful and friendly.
I am not Spanish although I love Spanish food, and I feel that the staff are very understanding of my limited understanding of the language and in fact have even taken the time to help me a little to learn some basic phrases.
With regards to the above review, I have never found any of the staff unhelpful and certainly not rude in anyway. I am sure that the above visit was in no way the normal experience of any customer at the restaurant, as it has always been busy when I have visited with many regular faces which suggests excellent levels of service and above all, quality.

I agree with the last review, I’ve also had a bad experience with that particular manager – no people skill what so ever, the rest of the staff are lovely, it is a shame. I used to be a regular customer before he joined and used to be one of my favourite places to eat.
I’ve now found myself a different Tapas Bar called Barba Roja and I definitely recommend it.

I adore Tapas food and love going to Carmen, but my last experience was very unpleasant and disappointing. The food was lovely until I had a problem with one my dishes…. I Asked to speak to the Manager and he turned out to very rude with no social skills and barely spoke English! I appreciate that you would have Spanish staff but the manager could at least have a basic knowledge of the English language. Consequently he sent one of his waitress who was very pleasant and sympathetic.
I’m a manager of a restaurant myself and if I treated my customers in a rude manner I won’t have any left. Lovely food and atmosphere but your manager lets the restaurant down.
Well I most probably won’t be going back to this restaurant.
