Blakes Hotel

I really enjoyed a romantic meal at Blakes last Friday, it is the perfect place to hid away in Chelsea as winter is setting iin, I am quite a regular there as I only live around the corner and have noticed a steady increase in quality over the past few months. I think it may have something to do with new maitre'd who is simply wonderful.
We started with an impeccable Beluga Blini accompanied by Dom Roase which was sublime.
For main course i highly reccommend the lamb, its an oldie but a goodie.
Dont miss out on the Caramel Souffle either,
If i didnt live so close id be tempted to stay the rooms look beautiful.

We ate at Blakes celebrating our 20th anniversary on Feb. 24th, 2007 and have eaten there before. We returned not necessarily because it's was the greatest food in London, but we previously had enjoyed the atmosphere and bar. When arriving this time the bar was closed for a private party and we went to sit in the small bar in the back of the restaurant. We ordered 2 glasses of champagne and when we finished our glasses we waited with empty glasses for 15 minutes while trying to get the bartenders attention. With no luck we were seated at our table. We were rushed by the inexperience and inefficient servers who never were the same people.(apparently the servers serve all tables) the only professional was I believe the maître d' who did take our wine order. We both had the sea bass and spinach. The spinach was so salty that I couldn't eat it and the sea bass was lackluster at best. They forgot about our wine chilling and never filled our glasses (we thought the bottle was empty) and ordered a dessert wine with dessert. They brought us the dessert wine and suddenly found our bottle which had two and half glasses of wine left it in, so we had an ensemble of wine glasses lined up to drink on our table. I won't return to Blakes for whom needs to waste their money on bad service, and marginal food.

The worst meal I have ever had in a "posh" London restaraunt. The spinach was so salty that it was inedible (there were litterally grains of salt visble all over it). The main courses were forgettable at best. The "special" start (a risotto) was £50 - twice the price of any other starter and no price was mentioned which I think is totally unethical. The decor is interesting if you like a dark Japanese brothel. The manager laughed at me when I complained at the end of the meal. I strongly recomend that you do not visit this restaraunt.

We had a terrible meal at this restaurant, the table located by the corridor to the loos was constantly being jostled by staff and guests. The food was very average, we actually left after the main course as we could not stand it any longer. Not something you expect from this class of restaurant where you expect to pay at least £100 a head without wine.

Blakes is one of my favourite restaurants in London. The decor and atmosphere are both outstanding and it is the perfect place to go on a romantic date or for an intimate dinner with a small group of friends. The food is very good as well and you have to try their famous cheese souffle.
The reason I am submitting this review however is because we recently had a dinner for about 15 people in one of their private rooms. Everything from service to food to the fact that they allowed us to have our own music in the room could not have been more perfect. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to celebrate a special occasion.
Also when going for dinner leave time to go to the bar afterwards!

We went to Blakes for dinner on Saturday evening. What a wonderful (if expensive) experience. The decor was great, the ambiance good, staff friendly, service excellent and food superb! We had drinks in the bar before dinner and along with the drinks we were served delicous hot snacks which arrived with large white napkins. How thoughtful.
We had a wonderful evening at Blakes therefore I would recommend anyone who wants to celebrate a very special occasion to go there. However be aware it will cost you a lot of money.

We have visited this restaurant on Sunday lunch celebrating my wives birthday. What a disappointment. You would expect to have a main course on a lunch menu, well not in this restaurant. How about a sandwich for £15 or a dim sum for £13.5. The food was a disappointment – very small and not really tasty, service was OK. I must admit the décor is very nice. So, if you are planning to have a Sunday lunch – choose another restaurant.

I went to Blakes hotel last night for a Christmas party. The food was amazing, the service exceptional. Possibly one of the best places I have been to in London. The atmosphere was great and the staff made our time at Blakes memorable.

It was a sweltering hot day, but how fortunate for us that a kind friend treated us to a dinner at Blakes Hotel while he was spending a night in London. The restaurant is romantic and elegant - the service excellent and caring without being intrusive. There wasn't a starter, main or dessert that wasn't truly delicious with simple presentation and interesting choices of spices and side dishes. My only negative is the prices which are high, even for London. I've gotten used to sticker shock after living in the UK for awhile but Blakes is really a bit over the top and perhaps gets a certain clientele that can afford it and not worry about mundane things such as cost. I'm only hoping another friend will be as generous on some other evening.
