I live in Dalston and have visited LMNT on several occasions. Each time I have not been disappointed. Although the menu is not the biggest in the world there is enough variety to please most people. I have been with my family, just me and my girlfriend and also with about 20 people for a birthday and have found the restaurant spot on on all occasions. As for the alleged rudeness of the staff, I have not seen this. Nor have the countless friends who have recommended it to me or have taken my recommendation. It is a well priced unpretentious place suitable for most occasions. And the fact that they have recently opened a second restaurant should go somewhere to disprove the negative opinion of this place. If it's so bad why is there always so many people wanting to eat there? We must all be idiots!

I went to LMNT on date last week. All I can say is it's a good thing I didn't read the negative reviews here, because I thought it was great.
It's a nice surprise to find a decent, and recently priced place so close to where I live.
The Egyptian theme gave us plenty to chat about and I liked the fact that each table has it's own little area making it quite private.
The food was very good (I had the chicken breast) and at just under a tenner for the main, it was good value.

Having been to the restaurant regularly over the last few years, I have to say that the previous poor reviews do not match my own experience.
Firstly, the food has always been consistently good and offers excellent value. Whilst I have preferred some dishes to others, I have no complaints about the standard.
The staff are always welcoming, pleasant and helpful ... I'm not there to socialise with the staff, all I want is a good service and I can safely say that they have never been anything but pleasant to me or any of my friends.
The design is eclectic and fun, which adds to the experience.
Always an enjoyable and inexpensive meal.

An absolutely dreadful restaurant. Do not waste your money here.
I went on Sunday for a quiet lunch with my boyfriend and received such horrible service that we had to leave. The waitstaff sneered at us, showed disdain when we asked questions about their menu, refused to discuss special dietary requirements, were brusque and openly tapped their feet impatiently when we couldn't immediately decide what to order.
Having ordered our food we were both so upset with the rudeness of the staff that we decided to cancel our order and find somewhere more welcoming.
This certainly isn't a hidden gem of Hackney; there are many nicer places to try.

the food served by the chefs here is an disgrace to their profession. its like someone runs up to sainsburys and does all the shopping there for the restaurant. my starter of wild boar sausage with carmelised onions was a joke of a dish. it was just one and a half sainsburys sausages cooked and then sliced lengthways on top of some underseasoned celeriac "mash" with horrible, bitter crunchy onions and packet gravy. my main course was even worse. bouillebaise should be a rich fish soup flavoured with tomato, saffron and fresh seafood but what i got here was tepid tomato juice with soggy bread, over poached dry fish that was bordering on being off and some mussels. the pistachio creme brulee was disgustingly over flavoured with pistachio paste or powder and the cheese cake was undoubtadly just one upturned from a sainsurys tub .
i recently chose to dine here with a bunch of people to celebrate a friends birthday and i left feeling embarrassed. the decor is not quirky, its tacky. and its stinks, literally. our cavernous cabin booth was cramped and smelt of urine.
do not eat here.

I went there with my aunt who lives locally and thought it was wonderfull !!
The food was interesting and good quality and the atmosphere was amazing.
I loved all the little hidden alcoves and the images in the toilets made me giggle.
I intend on taking my boyfriend there when he next visits as I feel it is one of the only place where a genuinely romantic meal would be possible as a couple could be hidden away in one of the more secluded tables. Most restaurants just have a line of smaller tables for 2 thus negating any attempt at romance.
The only complaint I'd have is that the outside looks a little shabby, but then I suppose that keeps it a hidden gem and stops it getting too busy.

A regular visitor, often dragged there by a daughter with a passion for their garlic mash, I was disconcerted to be treated with disdain and sarcasm when I commented as I paid that the aforementioned mash had been served so promptly from the microwave that it had blistered the inside of the daughter's mouth. Flat denial that the mash had been microwaved, suggestion that I was promoting the serving of cold food .... all very disappointing.
Beware the garlic mash!

I'm local to this so minimal effort to weigh against the experience.
We were a mixed group of carnivores and veggie and there was much coveting of dishes from both sides which is a great recommendation. Starters, main and puds were equally excellent.
Now, we need a gripe so: The puddings though could be a bit 'simpler': e.g. cheesecake, creme brulee and the like are great by themselves. Why do you need green tea ice cream ior cruched almonds etc? I liked the simple style of the starters and mains.
Not a peeve but the reasonable pricetags were kept possibe by the small portions. Rarely does one manage 3 courses and still feel peckish. Some frequenters with big appetite may choose to ask to pay more for bigger portions.

I still go here and think it's good.
I think it did change hands as it used to be really great, then went bad about a year ago. We had an argument with the head guy / owner too about a table we'd booked specifically.
We've since started going back and things seem to have improved a lot. It's good, I'd say go - it's nice, but it's certainly not what it used to be.
