Yas (Kensington)

Certainly not the best Persian restaurant in London, and it is the only one that I have found in the last 35 years, that served a miserly portion of rice, and quite small portions full stop. In other words minimum outlay, maximum profit. The prices are high by comparison to others, with no where near the excellence of Fanoos, in Chiswick High Road, and Upper Richmond Road, and other Persian restaurants that I have visited- too numerous to mention.

I thought this occasion was one of the best examples of Rip Off Britain, with a twelve and a half per cent service charge. Having eaten at a great many restaurants, in Mayfair, Kensington, and other parts of London, I have never been presented with a bill, where a service charge was added, and no doubt like others one leaves the place feeling distinctly cheated.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT! food, atmosphere and staff are excellent. All starters are vegetarian, fresh and authentic to Persian cuisine. Loved the mains. Great for kids, couples and family. Everyone must visit YAS, best Persian cuisine in London.

Only down side: singer Safoura is terrible and should be sacked. She's tacky and ruins the atmosphere of the lounge downstairs.

STAY CLEAR OF THIS RESTAURANT,they moved us 3 times and took ages before they took our order, food was average , staff were chatting in the corner and ignoring people, decor is a mishmash so don't expect a Persian atmosphere or Persian hospitality, the waitress snatched our plates away without saying a word. maybe smile and service is extra !! oohh yes there is an " optional" 10% service charge on all bills, i asked for the bill and yes they overcharged us, i managed to get hold of a guy with a silver Persian medallion hanging over his shirt that used to be white and showed him the Bill, and asked him what is the service charge % ?? he looked at me and said, well is 10- 12,5 or 15% I dont know WHY ?? well is more then 10% on the bill i told him, he looked at me and told me SO ?? WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT ?? we couldn't believe what he said, so I asked him to bring the Manager please. I am the Manager and I should have read the menu !! I told him in the Menu says 10% so what is this?? by now all the bored staff were looking as well as the other guests, did he say Sorry ?? ooh No instead he told me THIS IS IT you paid and what do i want ?? after few minutes arguing without any hint of being sorry, he gave me the money back !!! well I know they make enough money out of poor tourist or others who think YAS are honest people, well ladies and gentlemen, my advise to you STAY CLEAR of YAS restaurant , there are plenty of excellent Persian Restaurant with excellent food and service and Real Persian hospitality and feel sorry for these guys to cheat on people like that.

Awful restaurant - I ordered a selection of warm starters and was shocked that the meat balls were cold in the middle. When I tried to speak to the waiter he laughed and said he didn't speak English.

As our mains were taking a long time, my partner walked to the cooking area to make an enquiry and noticed that food was being REHEATED IN A MICROWAVE!!

I wrote to complain about the poor food & service but never received a response.

Meal there easter saturday - wife I and 3 children. Very rapid service and very nice food - mixed grill second to none my 4th visit and really enjoyed. we had 3 courses for £20 each and a glass of wine - as you can tell I was very pleased.

We booked a table for 10 a week before our visit. Didnt hear anything back so we called couple of days before and noone knew! so we booked again! when we arrived they said our booking was for 6 people! We entered the restaurant welcomed by smell of damp and smell of toilet! the toilet doors were wide open and funny enough the owner and his friends were sitting right by it. Every time we needed the waiter we had to wave for half an hour and when our arms were nearly falling off someone came to see to us! The food portion was small and tasted awful. We had kebabs which tasted like boiled meat. The singer SEPHORA was dreadful. She wasnt singing she was screeching. Seemed like she had a table of friends who were going around dragging people to dance floor to make her look popular which was disturbing. I won't reccomend it at all. Cheap, smelly, poor service, really nasty restaurant!

Went there on new year's day eve.

Had been before and took lots of children. We were seated on what seemed to be the VIP table and the food was really excellent with good attentive service.

Don't be put off by the negative reviews - its was splendid

I've been there a few times and although the service is not always the best I always paid the service charge and leave a tip because the employees said they did not receive the service. But the last time it was really BAD service, the staff didn't came to the table for new drinks or to check back. In the middle of the meal, I had to get up to get drinks.

As such I decided to not pay for the service charge. What was my surprise when the waiter came screaming and told me that he doesn't want to serve any more time. lol

A better choice of staff may be an option!!!!

Without doubt my favourite restaurant in London. The food is excellent. Everyone should make time for Yas in their lives...which is not hard as it is open until 4am! Only down point: the service can be slow.
