I like to try new restaurants every now and then... This was a special occasion - my wife's birthday and she likes Indian food. Being an Indian, i can assure you there is no other place than The Punjab in Central London where you can find genuine Indian food. We both are vegeterians, hence my review is for vegeterian food. To all the non-vegeterians - i overheard some people there appraising how fantastic the non-vegeterian dishes were!

Eat whatever you like but dont leave the restaurant without having the India's favourite sweet dish Gajar ka halwa (made from carrot).

The ambience is very well as well - soothing. The service is perfect - if you are unsure about anything - the captain can help you select a dish as per your taste.

I will definitely visit this restaurant again and would recommend to all the readers too try it once to believe!

One of my goals was to eat at a good London Curry restaurant. The Punjab was suggested by a vendor at Covent Gardens. I was not dissapointed, it exceeded my expectations. I've been to some good curry houses in the Vancouver area and had high expectations as to what to expect in London.

The staff were efficient, polite, and respectful of our privacy. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The food was fresh, hot, and very tasty. Our party of five, which included three children, all enjoyed our experience.

I have already recommended The Punjab and will definately visit it again. My only regret is that I did not discover this restaurant earlier. I found it difficult leaving as the staff were polite and friendly. Check out their web page for recipe suggestions.

As I entered the restaurant I was greeted by smiling, friendly staff, and a relaxed ambiance. Service at the Punjab restaurant was prompt and friendly. The food provided is of generous proportions and each dish seems to melt in your mouth. Prices are fair for the quantity of food that is provided to customers.

Good food, chicken tikka masaala not the best. Naan quite expensive (one for £3). I would suggest you to share the rice with your guest because the quantity is quite important. Nice service but could be better. Very funny menu. Nice smell of lime in the restaurant, hoping it's not perfume but coming from the kitchen. Anyway the food is good and the place nice.

This restaurant is living on it's reputation! The staff were surly and kept us waiting for our booked table until our party of four was complete, despite there being empty tables available. The food appeared to have been prepared in advance and microwaved. Sad as I have had good meals there in the past.

I sampled Lamb Methi, Chicken Korma, Saag Gosht, Bhindi Masala, a black Dhal, with the trimmings, and can honestly say that this is the best Indian food I have tasted in London. Every dish was richly flavoursome and fresh. The authentic aroma as you enter is awesome. The portions are generous, the service is friendly and the prices are excellent value. What more can you ask for?

The thing about this place is you've gotta know what to order. The food IS good... and as far as IINDIAN Punjabi food goes, it is pretty decent and hearty fare. If you're looking for evolved posh nosh type Indian food you're in totally the wrong place... it can only be compared to Ragam, Gopals or similar places. Red Fort or Mela it is not...

The chicken wings (starter) are among the tastiest you'll EVER eat and that includes 5 star hotels in Delhi, London and top end Indian restaurants worldwide.

The recommended dishes are all well above average.

In recent years the place has become more busy but it is a hospitable family run place and better than all other masquerading 'Indian' restaurants.

If you are drunk & visiting London from Essex for the day then this is the curry house for you! Ideal for the O Neils pub you have staggered from and can't be bothered to look for a good place!

My husband and I loved the excellent food and atmosphere at the Punjab restaurant on Neal St.,Covent Garden so much we dined there three nights in a row.

The staff could not have been nicer, relaxed but efficient.

The food was on a par with more expensive establishments.

Try their house speciality Chicken tikka smothered in brandy and set alight at the table the flames leaping from the chicken.

We look forward to another trip to London and the Punjab at Neal Street.

Solid food. Not a restaurant you would travel to London to eat in but if in town and fancy a curry it is better than most
