I think the previous reviewer must have gone to a different restaurant, because whenever I've been to Café de Paris, the food has been excellent. Try the snails for a starter, or the moules marinières (a favourite). There is a wide variety of main dishes and the wine list is extensive. The service can be a little slow, but that's also very French: it allows you time to enjoy your meal and actually *talk* to the people at your table. The restaurant itself is very atmospheric, and if you go in the summer, be sure to try and get a patio table.

I am afraid the service was ok, if a little slow, but the food was, well, atrocious, to put it politely.

The restaurants give-away is the ceiling - upon seeing it, we should have left. We paid a hefty price for not doing so.

The starter (crayfish) was actually ok, if slightly of the IKEAesque variety.

The mains, however, was a disaster. The halibut was not wrapped in ham (it was simply put next to it), was dry, old and barely eatable. The sauce had the smell of a habour basin, and a not dissimilar, yet artificial taste. The lamb rack was in fact individually griddled lamb cutlets, with a virtually tasteless sauce and roast vegetables that at best resembled ratatouille. And all that for GBP 18.50 per dish.

We passed on the dessert. In a nutshell, a quick cross channel trip on the ferry and dinner for two in France doesn’t cost anymore, but will get you at least decent food. If you are looking for French food in the area, La Brasserie in Bookham is about the same price category and while not great at least fairly decent and ten times better than this place. Alternatively, I am sure even Café Rouge next door won’t be worse and at least much cheaper.

I'm from sud of France and I can say the food is absolutly GREAT, but the service, the question is " Where is it". The girl in charge was very rude, shooting at the waitresse in the front of use, where did she learn the job. I will never go back only for that reason. But if you don't speak french, it's the best place to go for frensh food.
