I am shocked to read these negative reports! I went with a partner and we had a fantastic experience. The decor is extravagent but it creates an exotic romantic atmosphere. The menu is simple and does not overload you with choice, the food was fabulous, the lamb melted in the mouth and all dishes had a real infusion of sweet north african flavours. The service was excellent staff were polite and attentive. Also the downstairs bar is very atmospheric and has lots of nooks and corners to hide away in for a pre/after dinner drink. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Having read some of the poor reviews of Momo, I was starting to think I shouldn't have booked for 4 of us to go last night however I am glad to say that we had a great time. The waiter was efficient without being brisk and certainly didn't blink an eye when I asked for tap water rather than bottled (greener and cheaper!) The food was really good, although I think I picked a winner with the Couscous Momo: I certainly shouldn't have had a starter too as you get 3 kinds of meat, a big bowl of vegetables plus couscous. The decor is really well done and the atmosphere was such that we could actually forget it was pouring with rain outside. It really was a good experience and, although not cheap, felt like reasonable value for money. I would recommend for a good night out - on a wet Wednesday in August anyway!

Nice place and service (probably I was lucky as I went there on a rather quiet day)

Ordinary food

Outrageously expensive (for the quality of the food)

The person who said this was an amazing restaurant must have shares in it.

The food is mediocre, the decor and atmosphere very cliche-ridden, and the prices bear no relation to the quality of the experience.

I find it absolutely unacceptable for restaurants to put time limits on bookings WITHOUT informing the customer. We had booked a table there for 6 people mainly because they had not said there was any time limit, only to find that after exactly 2 hours they turned up and said "the time on this table is up, you have to leave". When I pointed out that they had not told us this when we booked, she just smiled patronizingly and said "well all our tables have a 2 hour time limit" - as if that somehow makes it better.

This restaurant does not deserve your business - avoid.

I have read mixed reviews of this restaurant and have therefore been somwhat hesitant about trying it out but finally decided to give it a go, and having done so believe that it has been overestimated.

I can of course only pass judgement on my one visit so far to this restaurant (it is likely to stay this way too unless I hear of a drastic change and better reviews). It is very easy to be overwhelmed by the interior (and exterior) which are indeed very attractive but the standard of service that I experienced was slow to say the least - I waited 45 minutes for my first course of fish tagine. It does not take 45 minutes to cook small pieces of fish. The dish was quite bland whereas it could have been more spicy - the use of a little cinnamon for example would have given it a bit of a kick - or chopped fresh coriander. I was greatly disappointed with my choice and wonder whether this was just a one off or whether this is what to expect from this restaurant (which is what I now fear). The interior is great but the service and food have to match. In all fairness the waiters were reasonably friendly and apologetic but somehow this did'nt relieve the boredom of having waited so long for a mediocre meal. I would recommend that you save up a little more cash and go to Gordon Ramsay's , The Square, or The Capital restaurant, where you will be guaranteed of excellent service and sublime food.

My girlfriend's friend booked a table for eight at this restaurant. If it had been up to me, I would have read these reviews and stayed well away.

I am nothing but ignorant when it comes to north african food, but I'm sure this place does not do it justice at all - I really pity the african in the review below who wanted to show off what it is like to his friends.

The service was not the best, and we were apparently allowed two hours only. But these pale into insignificance when compared to the food. You don't need to know about north african food to judge it; you just need well-functioning taste buds. My girlfriend's duck tagine actually tasted of something (gooey orange) but such a small portion for £17.50. Three of us had the chicken tagine which was literally tasteless, with so-so chicken wallowing in the green, watery sauce. These were £16.50 each and completely devoid of value. The couscous plates looked really dry but I cannot comment on these. Drinks arrived late, my small glass of house red was charged at an astounding £6.50, and unsurprisingly we wanted to get out of there before the two hours was up. Please do not bother with this place if you want good value, tasty food. Paying these prices, you can do oh so much better in central London. You might leave feeling very disappointed like we all did.

SO NOT WORTH IT!!! I am north african and I decided to take my workmates there to show off our wonderful cuisine and culture! What a disappointment!!! Such a bad choice! Momo certainly thing too much of themselves. The manager(S) are way too arrogant and the place is filled with highly stupid, rude and disorganised staff. All they seem to care about is chat, laugh and dance with their client friends, ignoring the rest of the world!!! They kept getting the orders wrong, in the wrong order or even ignoring some orders but charging us for them anyway!

And don't get me started on the food!! I am sorry, But I know how a tagine or proper couscous should taste like!!

This place is way too over-rated! They might have had it before but they certainly lost it now!!

Don't be deceived but this englishised tasteless food, and these headless bunch of rude waiters, north africa has much more to offer than this!!

Don't Go There!!!

Went to Momo's for the first time early on Saturday evening and had a fab time. The waiters were charming, efficient and funny. The scallops and prawn starters were mouthwateringly good and the lamb tagine lived up to all our expectations.

On a warm spring evening with the doors and windows of the restaurant flung open and people chilling out on squishy cushions in the soft lamplight you feel transported out of the hustle and bustle of London. Despite the restaurant being heavingly busy by the time we left, it still had a feel of intimacy that made us all feel at home.

So...

We were greeted on the door with a nice smile, I mention that I've been looking forward to the meal asits my girlfriends Birthday.

We get shown to the table...

We are efficiently asked if we would like cocktails ..'not sure yet just sat down, do you have a list'?

decide to order which ordered 2 martinis...

then 1 mins later wine waiter arrived to order wine again not sure really still not received our cocktails as yet besides do you have a list?

5 min later wine arrives first! (which of course we expected to drink with the meal which hadn't been yet ordered... but no great problem.)

After lots more waiting (20 mins) to order and for cocktails they turn up...At which point the waiter asks leans in and announces If we would like all 3 courses "we had better HURRY UP" as we had only 1.5 hours of our 2 hour slot left, this is of course after already WAITING on drinks and WAITING to order; was little to much.

I've eaten at many exclusive restaurants all over the world with a 2 hour seating as has my girlfriend this should never happen?

To be spoken to then rushed in this way (especially on your birthday) in such a rude manner was not on.

We look at each other in a sort of shock, then politely tell the waiter that we were going to finish our cocktails then leave.

(No offence we will go somewhere else)

Meanwhile, I decide to go and mention it to the manager, because didn't want to cause any trouble for you.

After a smoothing over conversation with manager, were persuaded to stay.

Manager was really nice and said we could have the table as "long as we wanted" no rush he even looked after our table *

So,we ordered Starters of Tuna and Peppers, then lamb and I ordered duck tagine which looked steaming hot until I bit into it was stone cold. **

I didn't mention it to cause more fuss! I picked at it and finished my cous cous. (Incidentally got home at 12pm was really very I'll?)

10pm came around second seating arrived at ended up sitting to some really nice people (who were the best bit of the night).

(food gets cleared)

No one asks about dessert or drinks.

Suddenly, the music kicks in and atmosphere lifts up??

Then, 2 birthday cakes come out singing starts... I'm thinking that's nice they must do that when you mention on way in...what a nice touch!!

I turn an look at my girlfriend who is maybe half expecting one? (nope) maybe staff could have informed me of that option on the way in?? Offer to pay to get one (nope)

We were then offered some wine from the table which was next to us 30 mins passes try to order digest-if no luck eventually my girlfriend walks over to girl on the door to ask? Cognac arrives. 10.30 / 10.45pm The manager then asks to talk to me. I'm thinking he's going to apologise or something? No asks me if I could hurry up as someone is waiting for the table!

(*until mid main course...then wine glasses were re filled by myself getting up walking to end of table to get wine.)

(** not asked if food is ok)

hmmm.... u decide?
