The Social (Arlington Square)

The Social on Arlington Square is the best place in Islington to enjoy a good meal with friends and family in a relaxed atmosphere. Already a regular haunt of the stylish North London set, the gastro pub is launching a new menu which true food lovers won’t be able to resist.
The menu is influenced by modern British and European cuisine. It offers a selection of simple, warming dishes made of high quality sourced ingredients. Dishes includes a chicory, stilton, pear and toasted nut salad with a mustard dressing as well as braised rosemary and garlic lamb shank with a parsnip mash in a spicy tomato sauce. The wine list is compact and offers a great variety of very good European and New World wines at a very affordable price.
The Social is split into two distinct areas: the dining room off the open kitchen, where diners can enjoy the theatre of watching the chef cook their meal, and the bar area with comfy leather sofas, homely and perfect for chilling. Staff combine efficiency with a smile. The venue also boasts a private room and bar upstairs, which can be hired for private parties.
Just like its name suggests, The Social is a prime lounging location. The music is just right with a variety of guest DJ’s who play from Thursday to Sunday and regular funky themed music nights are hosted which help attract the trendy Islington crowds. There is also a quiz night every Wednesday.
The Social truly is the proof that local pubs can be exciting and a great alternative to restaurants.

This is one of my favourite places for a hearty, uncomplicated Sunday roast. The thick, pink slab of beef and enormous puff-ball of Yorkshire pudding are just the ticket. It's a shame that the ale always seems to be off, as a pint of Bombardier matches a roast beef lunch far better than wine (of which the choice is small but reasonable). It's a pub that has been given an unsympathetic conversion and a personality bypass but it feels fairly relaxed and those Yorkshire puds must be seen to be believed.
