what the critics say

This Is London

Rowan Moore - 4/5

Wednesday, January 21, 2009 - A quarter-century later the Brasserie has revamped itself and the food is a delight, releasing delicate sequences of flavours in your mouth, little firework displays of taste. Extreme hotness is avoided, keeping your tastebuds alive. It is balanced and light, from the scallops with tomato chutney to masala sea bass and the cardamom kulfi. The monkfish is moist and firm. Prawns taste, as they rarely do, like beings that have come out of the sea. Soft-shell crabs are true to their name.

While the service was attentive without being intrusive, and the food well-cooked and flavoursome, I have not been to this restaurant for about a year having been blown away on my previous visit. I left feeling dissappointed. The menu is nowhere near as attractive in its breadth and depth, and worst of all the ambience has gone from opulent days of the Raj to mid market hotel chain.

I returned to the Bombay B after several years to fnd it revamped and with a different style of presentation and cuisine.

We had a fabulous meal, the flavours were to dye for and the wine list excellent.

I really could not find fault in the meal or service and the bill was what I expected for the level of cuisine and wine chosen.

There are 100s of indian restaurants in London, where you will find average or quality traditional cooking, however this place stands out for style and research of dishes.

i went there for sunday brunch 2 weeks a go. what a rip off, you get more value for your money in most other indian restaurants then at bombay brasserie, to name one la porte des indes will beat all of tham hands down,

Bombay brasserie looks more like a hotel then a classy restaurant, the reception and bar looks no more than 3 star hotel ,

what a shame with this new refurb they have made a mess off my beloved old Bombay brasserie, i use to go there in the past just for the grand looks of the place not the food, but now i will not bother anymore.

Indian fine dinning at it's best. I have nothing but the greatest compliments for this unbelievable restaurant, it was quite superb and an experience well worth the cost. I am surprised that people complained at the price when the menu guide is outside for all to see, if you couldn't afford it - why go in. The food, restaurant, service and decor is of such high standard that it should not be missed or take for granted - it was not an all you can eat buffet but fine dinning. Maybe not somewhere you would it every week but definitely somewhere to go and experience. It was exceptional and wonderful and worth every penny!!!
