The ambience and interior decor of the restaurant is lovely and upon entering the door, you know you are in a very classy place. I thought the service was very good and we were offered complimentary side dishes. Being a Pakistani who is very used to eating out at Indian / Pakistani restaurants, I thought the food was good but the servings were far too small given the prices. I ended up paying £50 for a meal that I know could have cost me £10 elsewhere so will not be returning unless someone else is paying for my meal!

From the spicy prawn starter ( one small langoustine split down the middle - £ 11.50 ) to the Lamb Rogan Josh ( 6 chunks in a vaguely interesting, though watery, sauce - £ 22.00 ) with rice and vegetables in minute dishes coming in at

£ 10.00 a pop all I can say is " what a rip-off ". Heaven knows what the semi chilled bottles of Kingfisher cost ? I was also expected to consume this meager fare in a replica of a 1950's era station dining room which had about as much atmosphere as a school refectory ! How this establishment has continued trading all these years is a mystery. There's one born every minute ! One good thing though was that I had my meal bought for me; had this not been the case I would have had to remonstrate with the manager. I will never return. Awful !!

In November 2007 we had dinner at Bombay Brasserie to celebrate our son's birthday.

We were very disappointed by the quality of the foof, in comparison to what it was 4-5 years ago: For example the "mixed plate" (that used to propose 7 or 8 genuine Indian dishes, from sweet to hot) now hardly contains 5 dishes of un-flavoury food.

Bombay Brasserie has never been cheap; but prices have managed to have gone up and service concentrates only on how to make you spend more overnight!

A bad experience: We will not be back there.

Returning here is always a pleasure.

First time eating indian food, for my girlfriend, requires the best experience ever. I wanted her to say "more, please, more!" ;-) And for me, looking for a "tasteful-but-not spicy-only" indian experience, this is a reference point. I booked for a late dinner, I know here's pretty crowded at peak hours. And everything was perfect, so that paying for it wasn't painful.

Try to save a bit, and you'll loose a lot.

Background: I wanted to take my wife out for a nice romantic dinner. After doing some research - I decided to pick Bombay Brasserie. I knew it would be an expensive affair, but was willing to pay to have a good time.

Ambience: Ok, there was a fountain - but apart from that it was quite average. We found the place overly noisy & crowded and we often found it tough to hear each other. The tables were also arranged very close next to each other - we almost felt like we went in there on a "double-date". Further, the "table for two" was really long - my wife and I had to be at the edge of our seats to even hold hands!

Service: The waiters were ordinary - expected some sophistication as it was one of those 'elite' restaurants - but it was far from it. The presentation of the food was at best 'average'. We ordered 'Channa Massala' and that was served in a bowl that reminded us of 'that bowl' we kept in the fridge we got at a pound store.

Food: If we thought we had seen the worst - i.e. ambience and service - the worst was yet to come. The food was barely edible and bordered on being bad. The serving size was small. Usually these big places have small serving sizes - but make up with presentation. But in this case, the serving size was small and the presentation - non-existent and seemed deliberately done using crockery procured at the local pound store.

So was anything good? Well, yes - the starters were tasty, so was the 'Rasmalai' dessert.

In hind-sight it turned out to be a great choice as my wife and I had a good laugh. We did marvel at one thing for sure - just how Bombay Brasserie had pulled off this major con on us. We whole-heartedly agreed that this was a night to remember - the costliest dinner for the worst food and the worst value for money.

I am usually not a 'review' kind of person - but this one I thought really deserved a warning.

We went to Bombay Brasserie for sunday lunch. They had a 3 course buffet for around £20. It was quite nice, but the starter & dessert selection wasn't that great. The staff were pleasant. It was a nice restaurant to try, but wouldn't rush back.

I was there about 3 nights ago and whilst the food was generally excellent (i had Sev Batata Puri to start which was outstanding) the service was horrific. we had to wait for about an hour for the main course and about 20mins for our second bottle of wine. our waiter was comical because he was so bad.

we had a table in the side room - i think if you have a better table things could be better but we will definately not go there again. got the feeling they are resting quite heavily on their laurels.
