Visited the restaurant last Friday and enjoyed it really much. My Husband saw the restaurant in the news paper as they have won an award for best chinese.

The food was lovely but the service was a little slow as there was only 2 waiters servicing with about 12 tables of customers.

Some of the food looked like it was thrown on the plates, I guess it was because it was busy. Other than that, the waiters were really nice and gave helpful suggestions. Food was definately good, just lack on presentation.

Would recommend.

Visited Eastern Palace on Tuesday 27th January 2009 at around 8.00pm after reading many good reviews on this site. Unfortunately, we were completely and utterly disappointed. We ordered our drinks and the waitress had completely forgotten about it until our dishes were served and we remided her of the drinks.

We ordered the following:

1. BBQ dry spare ribs - too sweet and off colour

2. Singapore noodles - too soggy and flat in flavour

3. Sweet & sour prawns Hong Kong style - S & S sauce to thin and not of the right texture and taste.

4. Sizzling chicken with spring onion- This was served on the ordinary plate and was swithed onto sizzling dish when waiter realised their mistake. Anyhow the chicken pieces were too big and not enough sauce - bit too dry for our liking.

5.Pok Choi green - OK

6. Toffee banana - There was hardly any toffee and looked as it was left over from previous night.

All in all compared to many other places I have been to, this was the worse.

I am very angry with the comment by Peter.

It is truely the best chinese in newham! They have just won the Best Chinese and Best Theme in Newham. not just newham, they won the BEST CHINESE IN LONDON OVER ALL......how could PETER say the food was below average. every chinese restaurant has their own way for the starter with or with-out any sauces.

keep up the good work EASTERN PALACE

Eastern Palace just won the Archant London Food and Drinks award 2008 for the best Chinese Restaurant. I must say, I am not at all surprised.

They have been my local chinese for a few years now and I must say that they are brilliant. My family surprised me with a small family gathering for my 30th birthday at the Eastern Palace. The table was nicely decorated for 18 of us, the whole restaurant was alight when they brought my cake out playing a Happy Birthday song, food is always lovely and the services was just great.

Eastern Palace makes me feel welcome each and everytime I visit. There was this one time when I joke 'is this how you treat your customers?' The lady replied ' you are not a customer, you are a friend'. It's a really welcoming environment, highly recommended.

sorry correction this restaurant has only been there 20 years and opened in 1987-88. and moved from next door. I've been a regular since then and the head chef is the same since then and serves the best Chinese in the area run by his family

Went here with wife based solely on these reviews (also noted another good review on a different website). Just back from the restaurant and felt i had to write a review.

8pm Saturday evening, 3 tables occupied out of about 20. Service was OK, appeared to be run by a family as stated below. Ordered the more expensive version of the meal for 2, so feel able to comment on the overall standard of food.

Almost every part of the meal was way below the average you would expect from a Chinese restaurant.

Hors d'oeuvre generally bad and no sauce at all! Asked for satay sauce which was again pretty awful and also noted they charged us £1.50 for the sauce on the bill- beggars belief really. Crispy duck was edible but again below average. Mains were generally big quantities but bad quality.

Noted a bit omininously as we walked in, a sticker stating the restaurant was on this website. I doubt anyone in the world would write this is the best restaurant in London, unless you actually work there/own it.

I've been going to the Eastern Palace regularly for many years now and it is easily my favourite restaurant in London. The menu is extensive and varied, food is always outstanding and terrific value. Service is fast, very friendly and helpful. All in all a really lovely restaurant. If you happen to book it for your birthday (as my wife did) you will be even more spoilt then usual...

Joanne who wrote the comment below is totally correct. I went there with her after work last Friday and totally enjoyed my evening there. They were very busy, but the food and the service was still ace. We had a 3 course meal with 3 bottles of wine and it came to less than £20 per person. Bargin!

Wow... I was really surprised there was such a brilliant Chinese Restaurant in the area which I didn't even know until recently when I walked past it walking my dog. The standard of food is totally brilliant and the staff are really friendly too.

Me and my family has surely found our new local Chinese Restaurant. Their take away service is also superfast, it arrived on my front door within 25 minutes and the food was just as yummy as it is when we sit inside the restaurant.

I am planning to organise my company's Christmas dinner at the Eastern Palace as I am sure everyone will enjoy it as much as me and my family does each time we visit. I totally recommend this restaurant to everyone. Visit the Eastern Palace, I can guarantee you will never be disappointed.
