The Butcher and Grill is a totally souless venue. Whether this is the architectural design or the absense of customers I am not sure. It is hugely expensive. To have to order a side seperately and further to order sauces/dressings is too much. Will not be returning under any circumstances.

I thought it was bad as cafe rouge, but this place redefines the word! Arrogant management, pretentious pricing, and the worst burgers I have ever eaten - anywhere!

Visited the B&G as part of a group of 12 for Sunday lunch recently. The food was very good but it is extremely expensive for what you get. Once you've ordered a steak (or whatever meat) plus a couple of sides as they come with no veg or chips etc, then you're easily going to pass £20 for a main course and whilst it's good, it's not THAT good! The wine list on the other hand is quite reasonable and we had a few bottles of an absolutely gorgeous Argentinian Malbec for c. £20 a bottle.
Anyway, on to the service: in a word, atrocious. For the first time ever we collectively refused to pay any service charge whatsoever. The delay between ordering and receiving drinks was 20 minutes! Half an hour after ordering our mains we received half a basket of bread - between 12! The waitress said she'd put some more in the 'oven' for us. 15 minutes later a bit more arrived. We had to wait one hour for our main courses (we didn't go for starters) and when the mains finally arrived it was 20 minutes from the first plate of meat hitting the table until the last side-dish was delivered - with repeated requests for each side dish, many re-confirmations of our order and apparent complete confusion over the sauces, which were delivered last of all. The extremely laissez-faire (and one waiter was just downright rude) attitude of the staff made the prices here very difficult to swallow. They are quite baby-friendly though.
We won't be returning, either as a couple or as part of a group though as it's just not worth it - there are much, much better places locally.

On a rainy day we went to the Butcher. A great little concept with the deli/butchery as you walk through to a great space. The service was pretty good, attentive and professional. So really it's all about the food. The calamari for starters was quite bland (so I'm assuming it's frozen) and drowning the rocket in sweet chilli sauce didn't work for me. We had a steak and guinea fowl for mains, which were lovely.
Even though it's mainly a meathouse, there wasn't much imagination in the menu - but perhaps that's their intention. The dessert menu wasn't much chop, but big kudos for the wine list.
Though at £100 for two for lunch, and that's just two courses and one bottle of wine, it's not a sensational experience. But try it for yourself.

The arrival of The Butcher & Grill at this former Cafe Rouge site has given the area a much needed affordable 'regular' for breakfast, lunch & dinner.
A temple to all that is bovine with it's in-house butchery & delicatesan, as well as dining room, I went with a mixture of excitement & trepidation; as boring & retro as it may be, my favourite dish is 'steak frites', hopefully with Bearnaise. Not a tough call, but one that often dissapoints in London.
Starters were simple, well-sourced & fresh; a selection of charcuterie, the high point being the English ham & a blue cheese salad with globe artichokes. All very good.
My partner & I both had the sirloin, with chips & Bearnaise. The meat was pefectly cooked, succulent, juicy & well-hung. The Bearnaise perfect, the chips just right. They were devoured & washed down with a bottle of Plantagenet Pinot Noir from Australia. Cherry & white chocolate cheescake & coffee to follow. Bliss.
The service was very friendly & professional from start to finish, and even though they had a couple of large tables in at the same time as us, we felt looked after the whole time.
Brilliant comfort food, we left completely sated & wanting to return for more.
Dinner for two including a decent bottle of wine was around £90.00

This site has always been crying out for a local gem & this has finally come with the arrival of The Butcher & Grill.

This place is a meat lovers dream. Walking in the restaurant you walk straight past the Butchers counter and get an eye full of your dinner, reasuring and exactly what you came for.
My wife and I just wanted a local restaurant to visit for ease and value for money, and had heard about the Grill so decided to give it a try; especially since we both enjoy steak. We had some simple starters one of calamari with sweet chilli sauce, which was tender and surrounded in crunchy batter; a very good start.
We couldn't say no to steak as we had seen it on the way in, but I was tempted by the French Onglet with sauce Bordelaise. Not often you see such a french cut on an english dinner table! It was marvellous: rich, textured and buttery.
The wife could not say no to the Dessert Menu, which delivered good staple puddings; she opted for the Sticky Toffee Pudding which I had to dig into too.
It was a relaxed evening with service doing a friendly and effecient job, which when walkig away made us feel we had found our neighbourhood restaurant.

I went to this restaurant a couple of weeks after it had opened and really enjoyed it and don't remember thinking it was pricey.
I went back recently with some more friends and while the food was still good, the prices were shocking. It's a nice restaurant with bare brick walls and an informal atmosphere, but the prices are more in line with white table clothes and a formal Michelin starred dining room.
A seasonal started of 5 spears of asparagus was £8.50. The rib of beef for 2 is a wopping £48 and a fillet steak is about £23!! And this doesn't come with chips (£2.75) or salad / vegatables (another £2.75). Desserts were a resonable £5 ish. This amounted to around £35 per head for the food alone. Amusingly, there is a list of sauces to accompany your meat, such as peppercorn and it was marker 'FREE' as though it were an incredible act of generosity. There are other more reasonably priced mains that aren't beef, but you still have to add £5.50 for side dishes.

Great atmosphere and a real buzz at Sunday lunch. Service good. However, the meat was the real let down. My partner's fillet steak was ordered medium rare to rare but came medium to well done. It was thoroughly charred on the outside. My calves liver was ordered medium but came well done in an overpowering gravy. The liver was bland in taste and texture and really quite poor. The side orders of spinach and of chips were both excellent. The other reviews suggest another try here is warranted, but this was poor especially considering the high prices.
