Caldesi Tuscan Restaurant

LOVELY RESTAURANT!!! I absolutely disagree with the reviews posted. I went to this cozy neighborhood restaurant last Wednesday night with my husband around 8pm. The place was packed with a fun local crowd.

We both had a fabulous dining experience and thought the food was delicious. We moved from New York City to London last year and have had trouble finding neighborhood Italian restaurants with great food and great atmosphere. (And we were pretty spoiled with all the exceptional Italian restaurants in NYC).

The manager was very friendly and treated us like regulars eventhough it was our first visit. This place really impressed us! I recommend the pasta with lamb ragu and the sea bream with artichokes and cherry tomatoes. I'm already excited to go back again...this will be one of our regular spots!

Went there on Friday 30 Nov. with 3 friends. Service went downhill as soon as we asked for a jug of water to the usual "still or sparkling" question and were frowned upon all meal. Food was generally good but starters are REALLY on the small side: slices of pork were lovely but should be renamed Carpaccio/ wafer of pork! Main dishes were ok-ish .

Side orders were ridiculously tiny and expensive. At the price we pay the main course, this should be complementary, esp. for 1 spoonfull of spinach and 2 roasted potatoes, and ordered for us by the waiter! Bill came up at about £200 for 4 with £20 service charge. We asked the charge to be removed so that we could pay it by cash instead - owner/ waiter suddenly stopped being fluent in English and had to be explained the request 4 times. Certainely wasnt worth a penny of service, and am still regretting leaving a tenner.

In short: food is good but scarce and if you "clearly show" that you dont want to be milked for your cash, you are "clearly shown" you are not worth it.

I went there and was so deisappointed !! The starter was supposed to be mozarella, roasted tomato rosemary and rocket, and it was actually just half of a ball of mozarella, 2 little cherriy tomatoes, and some rocket, the hole with 0 effort of presentation,and the tatse was not even nice.

The main dish was fine, though very little portionned, and the dessert, which was supposed to be a home made pie, was nothing more industrial !!!

Well, at the end, the bill is high to eat few and industrial food.

Wont definitely go there again.

Bill for 4 people with only two glasses of wine was £288. You don't expect to pay extra for a few vegetables when the main dish is already at £21. Yet the various dishes from a shrivelled potato to a few beans and spanich was all at an extra charge! This made the bill a joke! Service was uninterested in the clients and sluggish. The bill came not even on a plate, just the slip of paper put on the table. Not even a good bye as we left! No - I can give this one a miss for another year or two!
