On our third visit to Atami, I have decided to finally speak up. However, as I overlook the reviews, I find mine is exactly the opposite of most. Service is brilliant; attentive and spot-on. However, we continually find the quality of the fish sorely lacking...perhaps have been fortunate to have been spoiled by extremely fresh fish at other restaurants in the past, but we feel most of what we have eaten has been well past "prime"...not a quality to be overlooked in a sushi restaurant. Unfortunately, due to the fact that it is empty most nights, many must feel the same. Will not return.

I went to this restaurant on the recommendations from this website. I have to admit i was slightly apprehensive when i first arrived. Service was a very slow, we were waiting our sashimi more than half hour, but the main meal made up for that and more. I thoroughly enjoy my meal and the black cod and the marble beef were particularly good. I recommend it to anyone. Good value as well!!

Went here on friday 9th February at 7pm fairly empty but this soon changed! we were told we would have to vacate the table by 9 but we were still there at 9.45 food was amazing the Tuna Tar Tar was outstanding and well ass the lobster and scallops and squid. yes its is expensive so make the most of the 50% discount. Staff were lovely and very helpful if you were not sure what to order. Can't wait too go back

I visited Atami last night with a dear friend and was impressed by the food, service and general ambience of the restaurant. All dishes were well presented and served promptly and the waiter was most thorough when responding to a somewhat stupid question from my good self! All dishes were beautifully presented and well flavoured, we shared rock shrimp tempura, fruity 2 way prawns, black cod miso and mackerel - all hit the spot. One small gripe was the price of the bottled water, £4 a bottle, however with the 50% discount on the food the overall value for money was good. There have been some mixed reviews but my expeience was enjoyable and I will definitely dine at Atami again.

Disaster! I've been to this restaurant 4 times. Was wowed by the food. Marble beef, new style sashimi, rock shrimp tempura and sea bass all very special and memorable. But the service last time I went really let the whole experience down. Being able to speak English does surely need to be a prerequisite for wait staff? Starters were brought before drinks. A dish was missed etc etc. We refused to pay the automatic gratuity and yet the manager did not even come and ask why which led me to think he was aware of the problems. Such a shame as I really like everything else about this restaurant but there is absolutely no way I'd pay full whack to eat here again. Management please do something about this!

We ate here back in november after a stunning review from Fay Maschler and found it simply stunning. We returned on wednesday and found this restaurant has really gone to the dogs! We arrived at reception to "Any weserwation(sic) for you!?" We were then shown to the bar where we found a short, bald man with a mobile glued to his ear shouting at people in Cantonese, he we later found out was the owner! We asked for two martini's. We saw the bar man after consulting short, bald man in overly loud Cantonese again proceed to shake the martini's(only 007 doesn't know it's wrong to shake a martini!), suffice to say that we left these at the bar table having not drunk them and without anybody asking if they were ok.
In the restaurant thing got steadily worse. It seems that all the original staff have left and been replaced by a motley crew recruited from the dives of Chinatown. Where once there was charming and efficient service, there was now this rabble who had no knowledge of food or wine. The wrong wine was offered to us twice by a spiky haired waiter, after the second time it became laughable as he proceeded into a full scale argument again in loud Cantonese with short, bald man. When the food arrived in sporadic bursts after interminable waits, it was truly awful (rib eye-tough microscopic portion, sea bass-way past its sell by date and what was once spankingly fresh sushi and sashimi seemed tired and badly executed).
All in all a very bad experience! To join the wager, my money is on this being a noodle bar or an all you can eat Chinese by the end of 07!

This place is clearly causing a lot of debate, based on the previous reviews, and that is in itself reason to go. My wife and I went on Saturday, courtesy of the great half price offer via this website. We thought it was possibly the best Japanese meal we had enjoyed in London (not been to Roka, have been to all the other premier league peers). This is a very straightforward and no-nonsense offering for diners that lust after striking and inventive Japanese dishes. but nonetheless backed up by the reliable classics of sushi and sashimi. The highlights were the Marble Beef appetizer and Chilean Sea Bass with black truffle sauce Special, which surpassed anything Nobu threw at us last year. Service was very friendly and informed. Suspect we will be back with friends there in a few months' time. I would also like to get on that wager as well.

Great choice of food not just sashimi/sushi.The sea bass was fantastic, For some reason the sashimi i ordered took over half an hour to arrive, while the cooked orders arrived on time.
