it was rather disappointing. as we had entered the restaurant, firstly the decoration was very cheesy... awful colours... and the SERVICE WAS SO SLOW AND RUDE. we were made to sit unattended for nearly 20 minutes under some stupid spot light without ant attention at all... we were initially thinking of ordering... but because noone came to us.. we decided this place was not worth our time so we just walked off! the best experrience of this restaurant WAS WALKING OUT OF IT!! please IMPROVE YOUR SERVICE!

we had a meal just this sat 10th dec 2011, we arrived and was made to wait 45 minutes for a table....everything was really rushed the staff was so rude all the time, and then just automatically put on a service charge at 12.5% we said we was not going to pay that after being treated the way we was and was chucked out by the bouncers, when i asked to speak to a manager they said no just get out.

I WOULD NEVER SEND ANYONE THERE EVER!!!!!!!!!! NOT EVEN MY WORST ENEMY....

We went on 10 Dec 2011 to the Tamarai.

We booked for dinner at 7pm with the notice to have the meal finished by 9pm, in order to make space for the dance floor (clubbing).

The meal was ok, food was served in quick succession and it was well presented. Good that vegetarian option was included.

The service was not satisfactory, as they were not really responsive to the requests we made initially with simply getting tap water – for which we had to wait about 30 minutes.

The worst thing happening was that we had to pay in advance for the food and drinks, which included service charge. This was unbelievable to charge for service when nothing has been served in the first place.

Getting everyone to pay took half hour in the meantime there was nothing served to us and I feel that the amount of charge was unjustified.

We came to the restaurant as there was the promise of clubbing after the meal, which was clearly not the case. as we had 2 birthday people, this was even more frustrating.

Agreed that the tables had to be cleared by 9pm to make space for dancing, however we had to stand at the bar until 11pm, other people were still sitting at their tables and other people have taken our seats that we had to supposedly gave up.

There seemed no coordination to stick to any timings when the clubbing should start and the dinner time seemed to have been extended to indefinitely...

The overall experience for the stay at the restaurant, including the clubbing was bad and I cannot recommend to go there.

Do not go here!!! I cannot review the food as we left prior to eating because the customer service was so bad! 8 of us booked the tasting menu. We were in the door 5 minutes and spent over £100 whilst we waited for our table to be dressed. Another friend joined us last minute. The manager refused to accommodate him despite the restaurant not being full. We spoke to the manager and he was extremely rude, he would not even tell us his name when we said we would be highlighting the poor service we had received from him to his superiors. Having placed our food orders a waitress came to our table and informed us that the manager was now refusing to serve us at all because he could not risk "bad reviews", ruining a birthday. The drinks were extremely overpriced and the staff were plain rude.

Terrible. Rude staff, mediocre food, barely worth it. We were treated like criminals and asked to pay £300 for 5 people upfront before even sitting down. This was for food alone. No windows, basement restauraunt. When one person in our group left for a cigarette she dissapeared for 20 minutes, and only after we went upstairs to find her first we were prevented from leaving by the bouncers, then realised they werent letting her in because she 'wasnt on the list' despite the fact that her food was getting cold downstairs!! After the (not even hot) meal we were asked for a £40 mandatory service charge. We didnt even get cutlery! Shocked, never again.

We went to Tararai as a group of 12. Were asked to pay upfront for the food and service charge (£45 per head) and then on arrival asked to pay for drinks before we had even sat down (£300 up front). There was no discussing this with the manager. He was extremely rude and not ready to listen. During the meal some of the guests in our party noticed the seats and their coats had become wet from a leak above. The manager was really not interested and only after our persistence he finally offered a few free drinks. A disgrace and as others have said, not a people person. As for the food, it was good, but value for money poor. If you choose to go here, try going when the manager is not working.

Simply awful! The manager was very rude from the time we stepped in and once our food came we were asked to pay the bill before we had started eating - I have never experienced this in a restaurant, we were treated as suspected criminals who would run off without paying. Bearing in mind they added a surcharge to the bill for service we had not even received - I had to ask for cutlery as none was provided and had to ask a number of times before receiving it.

On top of all that the food, which is not cheap, is average at best and the portions are a bit small. Had it not been the birthday celebration of a family member I would have kicked up more of a fuss and refused to pay until things improved but did not want to ruin her night.

I would certainly not recommend this place to anyone - 0/10 as far as I'm concerned!

Experience of Tamarai was awful, totally ruined a lovely night out. Manager was rude and would not listen. He did not apologise for being rude and ordered everyone out of the restaurant. It is not a cheap place to eat and totally unacceptable behaviour. I will be requesting an apology and a refund and would never return or recommend

Appauled by the service of the manager - he is not a people's person and needs to be removed for the restaurant otherwise Tamarai will get closed down. We had our meal - but was rushed by the staff we paid over £300 for the 5 of us just on food. Then we asked if we can sit at the bar and get more drinks ... The manager then said can you leave as you havent paid the bill, totally mistaking us for someone else ... we had paid our bill and had our receipts ... he spoke to us so rudely said he will call security for none of our wrong doing... we had spent a further £60 at the bar ... for no reason at all we were drinking our drinks he called security to remove us ... we hadn't even finished drinking .. we were all girls, but the way he handled us was very rude, people like that should not be allowed in hospitality - there is no need for it... we had no apology for it or refund for our drinks and was wrongly accused and badly man handled and removed we all was shock.. all professional working women ... if the owner of reads this he really needs to remove his managers otherwise Tamarai is on its way of being closed down as im sure loads of blogs will be setup of bad experience.... The manager upset 3 lots of different groups that night and that was when we was there ... reading the reviews of the past seems like he does it often

Myself and 4 friends went here last night, and had the worst experience ever. The food was nice, and we liked the atmosphere, but after we finished our meal and had paid our bill the Manager was very rude to us.

I think what happened was that the Manager had confused us with another group who hadn't paid their bill.

After we paid the bill (£215, including £23 service charge), one of our friends went over to enquire if we could have a drink and wait for the club to open, or whether we could come back later. But the Manager wasn't listening to her and said 'You haven't paid your bill - get out now'. Completely shocked, she tried to explain, but he wasn't listening and it got into an argument. When the rest of us realised what was happening we tried to calm the situation, and asked for a refund on the drinks we had just ordered, planning to leave. But the manager would not listen and wouldn't refund our drinks, or apologise (since we had a receipt). In the end we agreed to finish our drinks and then leave.

A short while later, while we were sitting chatting having our drinks, 2 bouncers came over and told us to go - we couldn't believe it!

Don't go to tamarai unless you want to have your evening completely ruined, it was unnecessary heavy handedness. We are completely appalled at the way we were treated, and our friend who was also a regular guest will never return.
