Despite it being extremely busy at the office before Christmas I was determined to leave the cosy confines of the West End and head off to meet my lovely wife for lunch. She had booked St Germain which is not far from her office in Farringdon. I got there early and had a lovely speciality beer whilst I waited for the missus. The restaurant occupies an old warehouse so has some nice period features, there is also a window at the rear so it is light and airy even on a dark December day. I had a look at the set menu which was excellent value but then the french onion soup on the ala carte took my fancy. My wife had butternut squash ravioli which she really enjoyed , my soup was very rich and tasty but could have done with being served a bit hotter.
For her main my wife had a really good piece of halibut on mash which she really enjoyed. A real winter warmer. I decided to try that day's special "short ribs of beef" I was expecting a pile of marinated ribs what I got was so much better. It was a huge beef rib that had been braised so that the beef just fell of the bone, wow, really tasty and unusual. It was served with plenty of gravy and some mushrooms and baby onions. This delight was washed down with a very reasonable bottle of Chinon.
We were absolutly stuffed after such a heart meal that we skipped desert and had coffee. The bill was very good value for the feast we had consummed. The restaurant was full by the time we left and there was a nice buzzy atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpfull working as a team. All in all a very nice spot for a meal

St Germain is closed - shame as it was a good place to have an informal meal.

Had not been here for a while but popped in with 3 friends last week for a quick bite and had a great value meal.
We started with a cocktail each in the bar as the were buy one get one free and then moved in to a nice booth in the restaurant.
It was a Monday night so they were running a 50% off food offer. Starters were good with the pork belly, squid and crab cakes all being very good.Mains were also good with the rib-eye syeak and the steak tartar being the highlights.
Washed down with a nice bottle of red for less than £25.
Overall 4 cocktails, 3 starters, 4 mains, 2 sides and a bottle of red + service came in at less than £90.
Service was as always very good and ultra friendly and the waiters clearly know the menu inside out.
I cannot think of better value in London.

This is one of my favourite restaurants that I've been to so far with my Taste London card. The food was lovely and reasonably priced even without the discount, the service was very friendly and there was a good atmosphere - I can imagine going there for a romantic meal for two or as as big group to celebrate.

If I had to choose one word to describe this restaurant, based upon my first visit for dinner last night, it would be 'mediocre.' The food was poor quality (eg advertised sauces and ingredients missing from dishes) and the service was through gritted teeth throughout. Alarm bells should also ring when you have to spend the best part of £30 even to reach the cheap supermarket quality Muscadet on the wine list.

This place has got it's mojo back! Had a really nice meal. The booths are very nice and the extra space was appreciated.
Friendly staff. Good wine. Oysters - very fresh and no bits of shell. Steak pretty good - not outstanding, but did the job. Hot chocolate tarte/brownie things was sensational - tasted like it was fresh out of the oven - amazing.
Buzzing atmosphere and cool decor.
Would go again for sure.

Had another good meal there last night, made even better with the 50% off the food that they offered on a Monday night.
Foon was simple yet fresh, clean & very tasty.
Service was a as good as ever and the place was busy so a lovely buzz about the place.
If I have to complain it would be that the Italian white we were drinking ran out after the first bottle and it was so good the next wine we chose seemed a let down.
Been many times now and will continue.
