It's odd that 2 Veneti gets wildly different reviews. It doesn't deserve the poorer ones. For Maryleboners there are lots of Italian restaurants to choose from but this is one of the best. It's not trendy or flashy but very comfortable and the food and choice is superb, from the pasta to the bass and other fish to the side dishes especially the zucchini fritti; not sure what makes the food special but is it light, not overlight spiced and superbly prepared. The staff is very helpful 99.9 % of the time except for one odd evening where a maitre' d refused to give change to a late arrival for a taxi which had brought her to the place saying that the change in the register was for the 'guests' - which she was. Very odd but it must have been a bad hair day or something. All that aside, the food made up for it on that occassion and many others. You will also not be pushed out of your table for the next session of diners which the high volume glitz palaces tend to do. If this were in Soho it would be thronged. As it is it is on quiet old Wigmore, side by side with the dentists and the pharmacies and the bathroom and kitchen show halls and the old dowager Hall itself, a jewel is an otherwise calm and very grey sea. In short the perfect neighbood Italian, at the high end, not overly priced and worth every rapidly depreciating pound.

A business associate suggested we meet here for lunch for 'a pasta and a glass of wine'. It was a convenient location being midway between our offices.
The menu seemed a little bit all over the place. The pastas weren't individually priced. At the end of the menu it mentioned the price for one course, two courses etc. We both ordered ravioli and three individual ravioli pieces per person duly arrived. We were both immediately of the same mind to query whether we had a received a starter or main course and were informed that this was indeed a main course - very tasty but extremely small!
We shared a very average cheese dessert - again very small. With one glass of red one and a bottle of water £60 - and left thinking I should be buying a sandwich to take back to the office as I was still quite hungry.
So in conclusion - nice food, not nearly enough of it and far too pricey.

We recently had dinner at 2 veneti with two other members of my family.
Although the food was correct, it did not have this "dazzling" effect we could expect from a more than average italian restaurant. The seafood pasta sauce was not fresh and the dish could easily be done at home from frozen products.
The portions were very average. A 3 course meal is a minimum to fill you up.
It is a bit pricey for the food quality and quantity.
Last thing, the service is way too familiar for the restaurant aspirations. This could be nice in a small pizzeria but not in this kind of restaurant.

I've been to 2 Veneti a couple of times, and last night I was there with a group of Italians and the food we had was outstanding. I think 2 Veneti is the best Venetian restaurant in London (I come form the Veneto region) The Baccala Mantecato , the Sardine in Saor, Polenta, Salami, Bigoli with Duck Ragu were better than I have eaten in many Veneto restaurants. Even the bread was great! The service is extremely attentive and the owner is a great host! It might not be very cheap, but it is worth every penny. A truly professional and enjoyable establishment, I always leave with a smile! Why are not all restaurants like this?

I come from Italy and I've been in London during St Valentine week end, me and my girlfriend didn't know where to go at dinner, so finally we decided to go here even though we were afraid to find just a "copy" of italian cousine. But that's the surprise here there is the real italian cousine with some specialities from Veneto Region. The atmosphere is mostly romantic, personel is extremely kind and friendly and it was clear that their behaviour was not influenced by the fact that we're italian, infact we didn't tell them at once. We had a marvellous dinner with an extraordinary food, it's clear that they import original food directly from Italy, I appriciated an italian ham probably better than I've ever had in Italy. Excellent pasta and a spectacular dessert. We had also an excellent wine suggested by them. So if you want to try the real italian food you got to go to 2 Veneti, it's absolutely worthy!
