Hat and Feathers

I went to the Hat and Feathers early this year, and the service and food were as bad as each other.

Then I was told to try again, as in the past few months they have made a number of changes from owners to the kitchen staff.

Wow, is all I can say. The food is sublime. You are getting 5 star food, but without the cost.. Although the place was extremly busy, we didn't have a long wait, and the staff managed to talk to us for a bit.. Seems the new chef they have brought in has been worth it, as word is spreading about his food. Everything is freshly prepared and cooked on the day, and the portions are very generous.

This place is a must to try again.

On planning a Friday night out a colleague spotted the "£10 for a main meal plus glass of wine" deal at the Hat & feathers. We all checked out the website and agreed that the menu seemed like really good value for money, almost too good to be true........ and it was! On arrival we sat down and waited to be served but nobody came, I had to go to the bar and order drinks for the table and then carried on the conversation. After a further 20 minutes we realised that still nobody had come over to our table so I actually had to ask to see a menu. On looking at the menu it was completely different to the one advertised on both their website and blackboard inside the pub. On questioning this we had no more of an explanation than simply that menu wasn't available! The menu we were given was simpy awful, so much so that we ended up in Pizza Express across the road. Not good that a supposed gastro pub can be beaten by a high street pizza chain.

In these credit crunch times there are hundreds of offers around so don't go for this one.

Put simply if you cannot deliver a menu - don't offer it. Won't go back.

I took my parents here for a meal in February and really enjoyed it - I'd read some reviews beforehand saying the service was bad but didn't experience it. The staff were nicely attentive, the food was gorgeous and the wine menu gave plenty of choice. The only slightly negative thing I can say is that we were using a Taste London card so it was amazing value for money, but I'm not sure I'd have gone there if paying full price.
