Excellent place to go for a romantic dinner. Food was great, so the service.
Looking forward in going back soon. Lovely place

The Hat and Feathers was delightful when I went recently to dine with a friend.
Professional service and seriously tasty food. Plus 50% off food bill makes it great value. Choccy fondant was divine.

I went to lunch in the bar there on Thursday. I ordered a pint of 6X but that was cloudy and the replacement pint of London Pride was cloudy too. The home made canneloni was so well heated up that the edges were hard and the morels overcooked. The barman asked if I wanted to run a tab rather than pay for my and my friend's drinks and food straight off. When I asked for the tab, they had added 12.5% service, not what you expect in a pub. Poor.

We went to the Hat & Feathers this evening, where the food was very poor.
I started with foie gras and brioche (£9.50), the brioche was hard, cold and crumbly. The foie gras itself was over powering with cognac, it was cook perfectly pink but it could have been any other duck “pâté”. My friend took as a starter the scallops with figues (£10.50). The scallops were cooked to perfection but needed some seasoning and the figues was not worth to be mentioned on the menu.
To follow we had the rabbit (£16.75) and the pheasant (£16.50). The portions were good but could not taste the three mustard sauce for the rabbit and where were the wild mushrooms with the pheasant? (In supplement, you get five led shot in the thigh of a pheasant on your plate!).
We ordered dessert, the crème caramel with crème anglaise and rhubarb (£6.50) was the sherry on the cake! The crème caramel was so small, two mouths full, the crème anglaise and the rhubarb were for the decoration only. By that time, we were annoyed and it was not worth eating. We sent it back, explaining to the manager that it was an insult to a dessert!
In contrast the French & British cheeses were very generous (£6.95). I do not know how the chef can make any profit when there is only 40p difference between egg custard and British cheeses! Not to mention French cheeses.
The service was average, the friendly waitress was dropping more bread that she could serve. Please give training to the staff.
After working in this business for twenty eight year, it would be nice to see an improvement in this area, unfortunately this is not one.
This place is a gastro pub with restaurant prices and 12.5% service charge, £107.89 for two when you did not find satisfaction, “where do we go from here?”

Four of us ventured to The Hat & Feathers last Thursday where the food and service were top notch. We had not been before but had all wanted to see what had become of this once empty landmark buiding. The decor and furnishing are well done, a very warm welcome from the downstairs bar staff as well as great service in the dinning room upstairs. We all had different items from the menu, our starters and mains were all great, but no room for pud.
We liked the idea of a wine suggestion by the glass with the menu items and opted for this rather than bottles as we were not planning to drink too much three nights after New Years Eve.
We all felt it was good value for money and they seem to have listened and acted on comments about service. Even with such choice to be had in Clerkenwell, we will go back soon.

Exactly the same experience I've just had, the waiters were attentive when they actually got to you, but we waited nearly 45 minutes after being seated to receive our first course and a further 40 minutes to be served our pudding, altogether 2 hours for lunch I didn't really have.

Its a shame that the service was not on par with the food. Food was good, great smoked haddock risotto for starter and seabass with potatoes and vanilla (weird but nice) for mains. However we were let down by the service. We had to ask twice to get some drinks. The waiters seemed to ignore me and my girlfriend most of the time, whilst they attended laregr tables. However the poeple next to us were left with their empty plates for a good 10 minutes before they were removed. The 12.5% included service charge is not deserved. Good deserts though! Go there if you are after good food and dont care about service.

We went to the Hat & Feathers on Saturday night and had a fantastic meal. The starters were light yet substantial (Duck Salad & Salmon) and the mains absolutely delicious (Beef & Sea Bass). The wine was chocolately and the service attentive but nor overly so... We used the 50% off food offer so were grinning form ear to ear as the bill arrived - considering we can easily (and usually) spend £40+ in a pizza express!
Finished off with another bottle of wine downstairs, where we sat in the beer garden, which is HUGE but unfortunately quite open to the busy road and traffic fumes next to it. However, if you are after outdoor seating - this will not disappoint.
Would definately recommend to all.

I visited the Hat & Feathers for the first time today after work.
The principal reason for visiting was the spacious beer garden, which was unfortunately full or reserved. The ground floor bar was fairly spacious and tastefully decorated.
What lets this place down is the service, which was truly awful. Slow, inefficient bar staff who pay scant attention to who's been waiting the longest. Matters weren't helped by the fact that several beers kept on going off. After a 20 minute wait at a cramped bar, I left disappointed and thirsty.

We went a couple of nights ago with work for an early bite to eat before a concert at LSO St. Luke's. It was completely empty upstairs which suited us perfectly as downstairs was a little more noisy. We all chose different dishes from the set menu and all were perfect portions and delicious; stand out dishes were the confit of duck salad, the chicken was was the most tender i think i've ever eaten and the foie gras despite being everso slightly overcooked and a mite mushy was absolutely divine. I would definitely go back again, with friends, and eat in the more lively downstairs.
