I visited Sitaaray 25/6/08 with my husband and son and had the grill menu which features a variety of kebab starters, one dahl, broccoli floret and paneer followed by main couse dishes that included chicken curry, rice, nan, saag aloo. I have say I was very dissapointed. The only crockery was knife and fork, there were no spoons to eat the dahl with, one of the kebab dishes looked undercooked in addition to this we were expected to eat starters and main all from the same square steel plate which was pretty off putting as after eating a variety of kebabs there was food on our plates that we had either partly or not eaten. The waiter seemed put out at getting us new plates for our main course. The ladies toilet was in need of repair, the lavatory handle was broken, the hand dryer didn't work and there were no paper towels. Charging 12.5% service was the final insult!

Have to say that I had a great time at Sitaaray last night. Went there to start a night of celebrations for a 30th b-day surprise and the b-day girl thought the whole thing was a great idea. It wasn't too busy so staff were attentive to our table but I could imagine that when its very busy that could change. The decor is lavish bollywood with pictures everywhere but not distasteful however the toilets needed more attending too (bit wifffy). However, we all thought the food was tastey and very prompt!! They do tell you at the start to expect that the small dishes arrive one after the other as that is the style of this restaurant. It didnt bother our group but one of us had a little trouble in keeping up. As a non Indian food eater myself, I will go back to eat here as everything I ate suited my taste well and wasn't too spicey at all, which for me was perfect. The four of us paid under £30 each which also included 2 bottles of wine and service. You do forget though that you can order more of whatever arrives (which I would liked to have done) but it was exciting to see what was coming next......all in all good fun eating.

They don't really need to do the gimmicky Bollywood stuff (my only grouch about the evening was that the music from the continous screening of the movies was a bit too loud). We were a group of 9 seated on the balcony, which gave us privacy without being too tucked away and everyone was impressed by the food - all very fresh tasting and with balanced spicing. We enjoyed in particular the sea bass and lamb cutlets. The portions are small, but they kept emphasising that you can order as many repeats as you wanted - as it was, by the time the curry came, nobody had much room left and we only asked for a repeat of some spicy potatoes that were delicious. The service was charming and attentive.

I liked the 'suprise' element of having lots of little dishes coming and thought the £19.50 a head to be reasonable - I agree with a previous review that the drinks are on the expensive side, but they were happy to supply a large jug of tap water with ice and lime.

We visited Sitaaray last Friday night and have varying views of it. I must say the food was delicious, especially the seabass with garlic! The surroundings were lush and seating very comfortable. However, this was all totally spoilt by the waitress who appeared to be in a hurry to serve all our courses one after the other with hardly a break in-between. We certainly felt rushed. My final spoonful had barely left my lips when we were asked by the waitress if we wouldnt mind hurrying up as they had people waiting for the table!!!

All in all I would not visit this place again, its a real shame as the food is lovely. If you do go, be prepared to leave with indigestion and little cash. As although the food is cheap (£20 per head) the beverages are not. Three bottles of Kingfisher beer cost us £18!

We went to this restaraunt last night. The food was ok, ambience ok nothing brilliant, the staff seemed like they didn't want to be there, they got things wrong drinkswise and forgot drinks - i mean do you really get that in a supposedly top class restarant these days? We even had to get up and go and ask for the bill.

I will not be going again and will not reccomend it simply because of the staff.

being an indian, and craving for some desi style cookin ,i was more than happy wen a pal suggested i try this new kitchy kinda place at convent garden.

upon entering ,i felt i was in india.no doubt.

the movies playing all over,,the bollywood music and wat with all those really nice pictures.

the setting seemed perfect.cudnt wait to try the food.

the veggies on the platter superrrrrrrr

never knew one cud do that much with mushrooms, cauliflower, capsicum and brocolli.

my woman said the salmon was pretty good too as she jumped into the kebab platter

then came the dal and rice, traditional indian kaali makhni dal

the true test of an indian restaurant is the dal and this one is definetly on to something

i can rave all i want,i can suggest you just go for it. brilliant.

We went here because Brick Lane is for tourists. You know you should worry when the poppadoms are smaller than pringles - this place has tried to beat the conventional by being clever and has missed the boat by a century. I don't like raw chicken, or salmon that is supposed to be cooked served uncooked in the middle - if you are going to sear salmon and serve it raw then do so, but don't serve it uncooked it tends to make you wonder whether the chef is actually a child who cannot reach the pan properly.

For £18 a head this place is not value for money. the portions were small, the taste and flavour was quite bland and 'the same'. When we were presented with 'curry' it was disappointingly bland.

We complained to the manager who only tried to serve us more food as a means of 'making it up' to us. We politely refused his offer and requested the bill only to find out that there was no offer of a reduction and 12.5% service charge added on! I do not begrudge paying for service (the service was ok), but this place should stop trying so hard, and perhaps cook the food properly.

This is possibly the worst Indian restaurant I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Don't waste your money, there are far better Indian restaurants in the capital...

Basically don't go if you want a curry.. this new curry concept means charging you well over the odds for undercooked, tiny portions.. and don't even get me started on the 'poppadums'.. you have to laugh at the 15% service charge too..
