This place is fun, rather like being on holiday . Ok it cant decide wether we are in turkey, spain or greece, but I think that that adds to the chaotic surreal charm. I have only tried the tapas up to now. definately recommend the tortilla {ask for no yoghurt dressing} Thank goodness a tortilla that doesn't ooze like a babies nappy, take note fino and the rest. Other plus points are the calamari, the cracked wheat with lentils and the patatas bravas. Lamb kokta too, although not quite as tasty as their sister restaurant ciliana. Thank goodness that now Mussie has two fun places to counter act all the chain places around and unlike so many of its neighbours this is never kiddy city.

My boyfriend and I went to Phamphylia for dinner on a Friday evening with high expectations, after reading so many positive reviews.

Well, what can i say? That was the worst food ever ..

We had a very average mixed tapas as a starter and as main chicken temple and langostinos a la plancha. The chicken was that kind that you can buy frozen filled with cheese and ham and it was so overcooked that my boyfriend couldn't cut it.

My prawns were so small and so overcooked that they would fall off the skewer.

We even complained to our waitress who seemed to be really surprised. Well, the staff was generally friendly and the restaurant is nicely decorated. But the food was a disappointment and i would definetely never ever ever go back again.

We went on a very busy night after the fireworks in Alexandra Palace and the restuarant was full by the time we arrived. Depsite this the service was excellent; our orders were taken quickly and food arrived promptly. All the wait staff that served us were very friendly and we enjoyed our meal that much more as a result.

The menu is standard turksh fare. There are taps and meze to start, then a meat menu of Kofta, lamb stews and chicken dishes. There's also a fish menu with about 8 dished, pide and pizza and plenty of vegetarian choices. We had a hot and cold mixed meze plate to share as starter. The plate consisted of two cold vegetable dishes, humous and tatziki, mini kofta, borek and calamari. It was all really tasty and left us with little room for mains. I then had smoked aubergine lamb kofte, which was perfectly seasoned and the smoked aubergine was a perfect complement to the lamb.

All in all the meal was delicious and the sevice efficient and very friendly. Pamphylia will not amaze with the menu selection, but though it offers commonplace turkish cuisine, the food is of a high standard. The ambience is great and the amazing array of glass lampshades covering the ceiling only adds to this.

In my part of North London we are up to our proverbials in Turkish/Mediterranean restaurants. They tend to fall into two groups. The cheap and cheerful charcoal grill type places where it’s all pretty basic but you get good food at a reasonable price. Then there are the few that have gone upmarket but, unfortunately, taken their prices with them.

So, what a fantastic surprise to discover Pamphylia at the Finchley end of Muswell Hill Broadway. This restaurant manages to offer the sort of dining experience and quality you expect in this posh enclave of London, without the eye watering prices.

We’d booked a table although, when we arrived at 7.30 on a Friday night, there were still lots of empty spaces. By the time we left two hours later the place was full both with pre booked parties and those that obviously had come in on spec.

First impressions were of a bright, airy room with some great lampshades dangling from the ceiling and plenty of exposed brick. The service was attentive without being overpowering and we had just the right amount of time to look through the menu. This told us the cuisine was based on that of Turkey’s Anatolian coast. Indeed Pamphylia is the ancient name of the Anatolian province. The menu features a great range of seafood as well as the staples of grills, minced lamb and chicken dishes and Turkish pizzas.

The wine list is slightly bizarre in that it just shows grape varieties with no countries of origin. We ordered Sauvignon Blanc and, frankly, I expected something dodgy from the south of France. Instead we got a Marlborough from New Zealand at a very acceptable £18.95, which was delicious. We were also brought a couple of complementary amuses bouche, little savoury pastries, to whet the appetite.

For starters my wife ordered deep fried Kalamari while I went for Feta cheese cooked in a filo wrap which came with a garlic sauce. Both dishes arrived on sparkling white plates, beautifully presented and were delicious.

For mains I had minced lamb balls in a stew of peppers, potatoes and tomatoes which arrived in its own little casserole with rice on the side. This was beautifully seasoned and piping hot. My wife had salmon en croute and, judging by the speed at which it disappeared, was very acceptable. Throughout the meal our wine glasses were unobtrusively topped up.

The only slight disappointment was the relatively small dessert menu but, to be honest, we really would have struggled to eat any more. We rounded off the meal with coffees and brandy and felt very satisfied at the end.

The damage for a beautifully cooked and served meal was just £52.00 for two, including the wine and two cognacs. I had expected to pay at least £20 more for this quality and level of service.

Give Pamphylia a try, I’m sure you will not be disappointed, great food, wonderful service….and the toilets are superb as well.

Pamphylia is a fantastic gem of a restaurant recently opened in Muswell Hill - serving really delicious mediteranean food - the staff are friendly and the prices are very reasonable.

The Pizzas are the best in Muswell Hill and the Sunday salad bar is amazing.

The restaurant has a very warm, relaxed atmosphere - well worth a visit .
