Tom's Kitchen
your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne
Nearly impossible to get a reservation due to Tom's reputation, this restaurant is aptly named "kitchen" since the pleasant environment recalls a bistro more than a restaurant. The basic, white tiled walls, the ceiling fans echo the style of simple, well prepared French-style home cooking. Service was attentive but not fussy. The wine list is quite sensible with a low to mid price range. The wait time is not unreasonable.
Meat, fish and side dishes were sampled: the sea bass on a spinach bed with a tasty red vegetable ragout was flawlessly prepared but not particularly memorable; the mashed potatoes were fluffy but unremarkable. The steak was of good quality, perfectly cooked and served with excellent, waxy textured, perfect parallelepipid chips. The carrots were lackluster and did not surrender any the flavor promised on the menu.
Surprising brushed, stainless steel cups and saucers hold delicious espresso coffee.
With a modest bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, the cost per person was £45 pounds -pricey for the ingredients but not for the quality.
