We ate here for Sunday dinner just before Christmas. Being a Ramsay establishment we couldnt wait to go. The bar area is lovely with fires and cool sofas. Alas this was the best part of the night. The food was very cheap looking, chips straight from the freezer and baked in fat. The bread very basic and not much flavour. All in all very overpriced and very basic. We were desperately dissapointed and it actually ruined a perfectly good Sunday. I can not recommend this place at all. On a positive the staff were very nice.

My partner and I visited The Devonshire for Sunday dinner at the beginning of December and overall we were quite disappointed. The one thing which this pub seems to have going for it is pleasant staff. The dining area of the pub is cramped and the tables/chairs not very comfy. The toilets were even worse - cracked tiles and dodgy plastering jobs - not at all conducive to a Ramsey enterprise.

The meal started with fresh bread - a real let down, not light in texture and the flavour was poor. I had the ham hock terrine to start - which was good but not the best I’ve had - the so called piccalilli was watery, too acidic with a lack of any vegetable apart from onions. My partner had the potted shrimps which were well flavoured but in my opinion badly presented.

For mains I had the rump of lamb with roasted parsnips, veg and mash - the only positive about this is that the neat was cooked well, as for the veg - there was probably half a small parsnip and 2 leaves of spinach. The sauce was pretty non-existent which left the dish very dry - the mash was pretty standard, not rich and buttery as expected - also it had just been plonked in a bowl. My partner had fish and chips which were better, the fish was well cooked and the chips were ok but again not what you would expect from a gastro pub.

We finished the meal with a lovely cheesecake and fruit compote - which was probably a touch too sharp to counteract the richness of the cheesecake.

we were also let down by the lack of real ales, the list of beers on draft was pretty poor by any proper pub's standards.

I went to The Devonshire with six friends on Saturday night. The food was very good indeed. However, what sets this place apart from other gastro pubs is the service. The manager is superb and you can really tell that she is Ramsay-trained. We had to leave our table at 9.15pm as there was another booking, but at ten to nine the manager spotted that a table was becoming available in the bar, and so came to tell us about it so that we didn't have to stand up once we lost our table. Overall the experience was excellent, and I have now booked for New Year's Eve.

We decided to go for saturday lunch (three of us including our 16 month year old daughter), my husband walked away having spent £80 on a very dissapointing lunch. The only good thing i can say about it was the potted shrimps and a very good bottle of Sicilian red.

Why is Gordon putting this pub, its food and contents with his highly reputable name? Yet another overpriced london pub with ordinary food, cheaply decorated which lacked in atmosphere.

Gordon stick to what your good at.....

I had lunch at The Devonshire with a group of old friends prior to the varsity match and experienced a real treat. The manager and her staff were very welcoming and friendly. Everything was done professionally, yet with a charming informal air. A pint of well kept real ale started off a lovely meal of langoustine, followed by lamb and a selection of excellent British cheeses.

Time passed swiftly in the convivial atmosphere, and The Devonshire organised a taxi to take us the short hop to Twickenham. A very civilised way to spend your day!

Had lunch on a busy Thursday despite which the service was friendly and efficient and the food excellent. The venison pie in particular was superb. Well worth a trip

I had lunch here with a group of friends last week before going on to Twickenham for the Varsity match. What an excellent lunch it was - deviled kidneys (very tasty), venison pie (delicious) and bread and butter pudding (to die for). The service was perfect - informal, friendly and very efficient. Highly recommended to everyone.

Plus an excellent pint (well several pints) of beer.

Devonshire is tucked away down a leafy back street off Chiswick High Road, so you are not likely to stumble across it, but it's well worth a visit. The staff without exception were excellent - welcoming, friendly and hlepful - for example we were offered, unprompted, a generous tasting of an unfamiliar wine, a very drinkable Spanish rose. Food was delicious and not overpriced. Langoustines and Cromer crab starters were delicious, as were the mains of fish & chips and braised pigs cheeks with mashed neeps. My only quibble would be the platter of sliced brown bread - but such a minor black mark took nothing away from our enjoyment of an excellent meal. Congratulations to all concerned!

On arrival we were greeted warmly by the lovely manager and sat by the cosy fire to warm up from the night air. We then moved through to the restaurant and I very much enjoyed the pork pie with picallily followed by the tasty braised pigs cheeks (new to me) - temptation pushed me a step too far and the delicious desert pushed me over the edge of fullness, so we headed back to the comfy sofa for a mint tea to digest. I look forward to another visit soon, perhaps for lunch next time.

I had a fantastic time at the Devonshire on Sunday afternoon. The service was friendly and highly efficient and the food was superb. I highly recommend the pumkin soup, the hake and chips and the chocolate and chestnut cake. A welcome addittion to the area, so I look forward to returning soon!
