As others have said, this is a very nice gastropub. Food, service and atmosphere are spot on.

We visited my son in Chiswick and prebooked a table for five on Friday 10th January 2009 at the Devonshire on its 'Ramsay' reputation. Its an unpretentious restaurant and the staff made us feel immediately welcome and were very attentive and amiable throughout our stay. The food was reasonably priced and certainly delivered in its presentation and taste. Starters of Fishcakes with horseradish coleslaw/Veal pie/spinach soup were all excellent as was the main courses of pork belly/chicken and leek pie/pork sausage/steak which were all served in perfect sized portions. The evening was unrushed and very enjoyable for the five of us for little over £100. We didnt get to see Mr Ramsay but we were assured that he does call in. Overall, thought the food and reception spoke for itself and we would definetely return again.

Husband and I were in London on business and went to The Devonshire after a hectic day. We used to live in Chiswick so what a transformation from the run down pub that we remembered. Ambience is excellent...a lovely comfortable pub restaurant without pretention whilst people can still come into the bar for just a drink. All open plan but even though the bar is next to the restaurant, neither feel like they are impinging on the other. Well, what can we say about the food...somehow food that could be cooked so average in another eatery is taken to a new dimension. Fishcakes to start with which were delicate in flabour, slightly crunchy without a hint of grease. Excellent. I had the confit of duck with white beans and husband had venison which was the special of the day.....both were melt in the mouth (we always swop meals half way through) and so delicious we could hardly speak to each other whilst savouring each mouthfull ! The service is quick but you are not rushed and the staff could not be faulted - unlike a lot of restaurants where it's all a bit of a trial to serve the paying public - they greet you with genuine warmth, are eager to serve you with a smile and know their stuff when asked about the menu.

Well done to the Gordon management on what I would suspect are in depth interviews for their staff . It shows. There was live background music, with a very good guitarist and keyboard player, and although the music was excellent and relaxing it was, as it should be, in the background and didn't interfere with any conversation, albeit we were the nearest table to them. The lighting is subdued but you are not blinking in the gloom or dazzled by mis-aimed lights. The clientelle have been targetted spot on as there were young people out for a romantic meal, people like us on business who were relieved to find comfort and good food after a busy day, and the over 60's enjoying a mid week meal. Having lived in London and eaten our way round London and the UK -and many times at various "celebrity" chef eateries, including other Gordon Ramsay restaurants - this man has the total edge over others. All in all 10 out of 10 and we will definitely be going again next time we are in London.

Beeing in London on a business trip from The Netherlands I decided to give Ramsay's Devonshire a try. Other commenters really do have a point when telling that writing a Kitchen Nightmare style review really is useless and I certainly do not intend to. But when I saw fishcakes as a starter on the menu... I could not resist, since Ramsay orders those in at least 8 KN episodes. They passed the test by the way. Fresh, well presented without too much frills. The fishcakes came with some leaves and a mangochutney, which really lifted the flavour of the cakes. For mains I chose the confit dug leg with white beans. This is a very classic dish from the south-west of France. I visit that area on a regular basis and I have eaten this dish numerous times. But i can advise all the French to go to The Devonshire in London, because this dish was absolutely stunning. I have never had this dish so perfectly cooked.

My overall conclusion that I will definitely go back to The Devonshire. The food is simple, but amazingly wel cooked and presented, the staff was friendly, servicestandard is high and I found the atmosphere relaxing.

I have been told that Ramsay will open a restaurant in The Netherlands... I am looking forward to it.

A friend had a dinner party there couple of weeks ago and it was my first time to this pub.

The atmosphere was great! The second I walked in I feel relaxed...the dark colour oak wall and comfortable looking sofa really work!

I was really hungry, so I ordered the Soft herring roes on toast as an entree, it was so rich in flavour and very tasty. Lemon sole with crushed Jersey royals and caper butter was my main, a bit small, portion wise, but it tasted fresh!

Vanilla and gingerbread cheesecake, balsamic strawberries is to dead for!! It was so creamy, not the usual cheesecake, almost like eating just the cheesecake filling, which I love, will go again just for that.

Services was great, we were there until 11:30pm on the Sunday night without being disrupted once by the staff. Oh, they sang Happy Birthday to my friend as well, that's very nice of them.

Really enjoyed it. Costed me about £30 (not including alcohol) which is very good value for money in my opinion.

The Devonshire is a really great addition to the Chiswick restaurant scene. The food was fantastic and the service second to none, also we found it to be very reasonable - £80 for the 2 of us having 3 courses each, wine and service, so cheaper than a lot of other 'gastropubs' we've visited.

A few of the people reviewing this place have missed the point. This is a great gastro pub with a lovely bar area at the front with some comfy seats and sofas and a well considered short and sweet menu.

Think simply cooked langoustines, pies, fish and chips, and so on. The food is very reasonable priced and you will be in an out relatively quickly. I’ve eaten here many times both before and after it’s current owner and definitely see that it has changed for the better.

If you want to be wowed by food go to one of his more expensive restaurants.

It's very easy to knock a Ramsay establishment and many of these critics seem to have taken it upon themselves to do a Kitchen Nightmares style review. The Devonshire doesn't claim to be anything more that a great local gastropub, and on that basis it delivers brilliantly. It's my local and having been there on a number of occasions I find the food is consistently good, with a regularly changing and relaxed menu. The wine list is good and reasonably priced. And the service is friendly and efficient.

If you go expecting a Michelin starred experience of course you'll be disappointed. For a local gastro pub it's fab.

8 of us dined here today and we all tried different meals. Pretty much all of us enjoyed our meals apart from me. Perhaps I am too fussy or just a littler more discerning; the latter, I think!

I had soup for starters which was not bad, but nothing special. For the main I had neck of lamb which was presented nicely enough but again did little to wow me. For desert I tried the chocolate sponge and ice cream. This was better but looked as though it may have come out of a packet an hour earlier.

I have to comment on the mash potato. I thought it was pretty awful. It was too creamy and had no texture. It could have been smash for all I know!

I have had better food at places half the price. Gordon, why are you buying these gastro pubs - they are not the future, mate!

We booked a table for 7 in December. The place was buzzing with atmosphere. The food was great, I loved the pig cheeks! The service was outstanding and the wines were perfect. Gordon does seem to have a winning formula. I could only recommend this eatery with complete confidence. Excellent value for money.
