The Windmill

Small pub on the edge of the City .The food is really good, served in generous portions by friendly and welcoming staff. The menu veers towards Italian, and there is a good choice of wines and beers. We had the specials of the day-spaghetti with fresh tomatoes, chili, basil etc served in a huge platter, and some really innovative sandwiches. How does a sandwich of parma ham, mozzarella, mushroom omelette, all on a large slice of mustard crusty bread with large italian fries all for £7 sound? This is all one sandwich by the way .And the portion was huge.
Go try it,you won't be disappointed .

Bijou even by the standards of Shoreditch’s tiny boozers, The Windmill is a newcomer with a slight Italian twist. There’s just one, compact room, deftly smartened up with some splashes of strong colour & furniture that’s classier than the usual gastropub junkshop finds. The menu changes monthly, with sandwiches on rustico or focaccia bread & more substantial mains including polpo alla Sarda – octopus with potatoes, tomatoes & onion salad – or penne alla amatriciana. It’s all pretty simple & affordable, there’s a short list of cocktail standards & the Italian-dominated wine list has plenty of sub-£20 choice, though the selection by the glass is rather limited. Beers on tap include Cruzcampo & Paulaner.
