The Bunch of Grapes

I agree with you Donald. My wife and I were in London for the first time this past October. We saw Bunch of Grapes, walked in and were delighted it had the non-smoking upstairs. I'm glad I didn't know it was a chain, as we may have passed on it to pursue a more "aunthentic" pub. In this case, our ignorance was bliss. The beer battered fish was wonderful, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. I think folks sometimes miss a lot of good places when they avoid the chains. I'm no pub expert, but this place more than satisfied our desire for a London fish and chips meal at a good price. Good service too.

HOMOPHOBIC - Ended up in this pub to end a perfect easter sunday with my partner (we are a gay female couple). Having ordered two glasses of red wine, which the barperson had to spoon the cork out of, we sat down to enjoy the rest of the evening. However, only after a few minutes we were told to leave for not following the rules?? We asked why we were being forced to leave and the barperson told us that this establishment would not tolerate this type of beahviour and proceeded to take our drinks away. I still have no idea about the rules. My partner and I were talking, which was interspersed with kissing on the lips and can only think it was this that was not following the rules?! We were appalled!!!

My wife and I ran into this pub while walking around and thought we'd try it out. The food was great, and the staff was very friendly.

Food was ok, but this is a chain pub and can not be described as a "Gastro" pub.

"I have visited the U.K. twice and have gone to the Bunch of Grapes Pub each time. What a wonderful meal and great atmosphere. I don't care if it is full of martians, locals, or tourists, I go there for the food which is superb. The fish 'n' chips are definitely the best in London and believe me I have eaten at many places where I ordered fish 'n' chips. If you like tasty meaty chips and delicious beer batter fish go there. The upstairs restaurant where we ate is air-conditioned ( an unusual entity in London and is SMOKE-FREE!) How about that? I highly recommend it. The staff and the people (other customers) all were extremely friendly. If you are just going there or to any pub just to get a buzz on, then what does it matter where you go...go to the nearest pub for that, but for a great meal go to Bunch of Grapes!" Donald J. Dill
