Very average Italian. Nothing outstanding, or even particularly good.

Service was nice enough. Food was alrightish - though my veal was overcooked and gristly.

Much better places nearby. Ciao Bella up the road in Lamb's Conduit Street offers much more character and quality for a similar price.

I had lunch at this restaurant recently and I have to say I am rather surprised at the really good reviews I have read so far. I was a little disappointed after having read such excellent reviews. The food was nothing but ordinary italian food.

We ordered a couple of bruschettas and a mixed starter. I was absolutely appaled at how cheap the bruschettas looked. It literally looked like a burnt piece of toast with chopped tomato on top. Really disappointing. The mixed starter was also nothing special, and the combination of food didn't seem to fit in too well (mozarella and tiny shrimps?).

The main meals were probably the best out of the whole experience. The portions were very generous, but the selection of pastas and sauces were typical of any regular italian restaurant. Nothing that would make me say "I want to come back here".

The worst thing about the whole experience was probably how long it took for us to get our starters and then the main meal. I know the restaurant was busy, but it took 45 minutes to get our starters, which only consisted of burnt toast and a cold mixed starter (so it didn't even need heating or cooking).

Anyway I wouldn't say no to going to this restaurant again, it's ok, but I definitely wouldn't recomment it to anyone and I definitely would not give it such praise. It is just another typical, ordinary italian.

Booked thru Toptable which gave us an amazing deal on price but a limited menu on starters and mains. All was very good - friendly and attentive service, good food. Will try it again but with the full menu.

Tartufo Trattoria is definitely one of the best Italian restaurant in London. I eat here almost every week! Now they have a new Sicilian menu which is very exciting as it offers some great new dishes to try. I can't wait to try them all!

The chef is passionate about cooking and the atmosphere is very nice as it is a small family owned restaurant.

Because of one thing or another it had been many months since I last visited Tartufo. Despite it having been some time we were greeted like old friends. The food and service were fantastic as usual – the chef even came to see if everything was allright as one of our party did not finish their main course (they were full up). The comment by Anon (05/03/2009) seems very odd and I strongly suspect it is imaginary and made up by a rival or someone with a grudge. I cannot recommend Tartufo enough!

This is a little gem of an Italian resturant in Red Lion Street, near Holborn. The food is very good, always fresh and deliciously cooked. The calves liver is very good but so is everything else on the menu. I have always found the staff to be very friendly and efficient. You are never rushed so you can relax and enjoy your meal at leisure and in a friendly atmosphere. It is very good value for money so it is well worth the effort to go there.
