Went on Friday night with a couple of dining companions. We come here at least ten times a year and have been impressed with the consistency of the steaks and service, the all female waiting staff are all still there and smiling as ever, no chopping and changing here. The Cote de boeuf for me is the raison d'être at this place, great value and brill. Accompaniments are generous, what with greens and salads, especially cress and of course chips. The house Merlot is great value. My only gripe with B&B is their burgers are pretty pathetic in terms of size and taste. Otherwise thumbs up all round.

Whenever I'm in New York, I'm struck by the fact that a restaurant doesn't have to be super trendy to be popular with the afterwork croud or expensive just because it serves good steak. Black & Blue brings that to London, with its small chain of simply yet stylishly furnished restaurants, great steaks for not much money and proper service. Where else can you find the near-mythical Houston's spinach and artichoke dip, a huge steak with fries, sallad and unlimited bearnaise sauce, as well as beer in lovely frosted glasses? Nearly every table is in leather clad booth and, though you can't book, there's almost always a table available. Nice, unpretentious and really good.

I have eaten here a few times before and always found the food pretty good. Not so tonight - our two fillet steaks were both burnt on the exterior. Although, under the crust, they were medium rare as requested the dominant taste was one of carbon. On telling our waitress this she just smiled - either she didn't understand or considered it to be a good deflection technique. If a restaurant that claims to specialise in steak can't get a basic steak right one starts to question what it has to offer..

Decent burger, good chips. Good lunch place if walking around town with a colleague or out of town visitors thanks to comfortable booths and pleasing decor.
