Avoid at all costs! It looks like it should be lovely but it certainly isn't!

Overpriced, lukewarm and very average food on a bed of terrible service...

Go get some premium sausages and some nice potatoes and make your own...erm...S&M - it'll be 100% nicer and more satisfying than the slop you'll get here!

Nuff said!

Desperately disapppointing!

Having seen some good reviews in the press we thought we would give S&M a go. We now wish we'd read the reviews on this site as they are far more accurate...(at least the negative ones are)

Poor quality sausages; 'East Indian', allegedly containing chilli and ginger but they were tasteless

Mash; bubble and squeak - we did spot something green hidden in the heavily watered instant mash.

Gravy; 1 x onion and 1 x vegetarian but they looked and tasted exactly the same.

Considering this place specialises in just one dish you'd think they might make a bit of an effort. If this had been served at school you would have complained.

On the evidence of this visit, S and M is over-rated and over-priced at £27.95 for two with two bottles of beer. Give it a miss

I have worked in this area for many years and when this place first open it was fantastic...lots of good food and good old east end hospitality...i went in again today and was greeted by a moody teen who got the order wrong. It was undercooked, not enough and tasted awful...we won't go into the wait...even i am kicking myself for waiting so long for what tasted like cardboard. Not happy!

I work close to S&M Spitalfields and have frequented it on a fair few occassions over the last three to four years. Up front I should say that since my firt visit I don't eat the sausages there, meaty or veggie. On the porky side I find them somewhat underdone for me, not brown enough. On the veggie side they appear to be deep fried and somewhat squidgy, not my bag at all.

That said, the choice of toher mains is reasonable enough, and the quality is about what you'd expect for a faux fifties caff. My main gripe is really with the quality of ingredients. The fish pie I sampled today was mainly white sauce and mash. I was assured there was 'fish and shrimp' in the mix somewhere, but encountered not one prawn , nor more than the most fleeting shard of Cod. I had no idea it was that scarce.

Apart from that, all is as you'd expect, just nothing to rave about.

Service is perfunctory, and the atmosphere is basic.

Nothing to write home about.

Good food but left we had to wait 30 mins for it to arrive. When it did it was tepid. This could be so much better if there was more attention to detail.

We loved this! Great service from a lovely lad with a Gallic accent, good bangers and mash, even if slightly more tanned than expected. Like the other half said:"It does what it says on the tin!"
