5th View Bar and Food @ Waterstones

Just went to 5th View for lunch. It was awful. It all went wrong from the start. I called at 12 to make a reservation for 12.30, as I did not want to queue, and was rudely told by whoever picked up the phone to just walk in, after which she hung up. Unfortunately for us we did walk in. Service was incredibly slow. Our waiter even slower. We asked him twice for water, and once from another waitress who was rude. Despite one of us ordering the ploughmans lunch before the table next to us, theirs arrived first, whilst my lunch was erroneously brought to another table. When I asked if I could have it the waitress said she would check, took it back to the servery where it sat for 5 minutes. The ploughmans arrived with no white bread, and it took the kitchen a full 10 minutes to produce some. Despite being a nice venue the terrible service made for a very slow and irritating lunch.

Used to love this place, with the fabulous views, but last night's visit was a complete fiasco and will be our last. An alcoholic mojito was served when a non-alcoholic nojito was requested; my companions waited 30 minutes to be served despite several trips to the bar to request table service; the music was loud and invasive and made conversation impossible. After another twenty minute wait for the order to arrive, we gave up in disgust since we had a play to go to, left cash for the one nojito, and walked out. Sorry, we're not usually so aggressive towards bad service, but this was appalling. The bar wasn't even at capacity, since it was fairly early in the evening. Maybe it was that we were ordering soft drinks (for once). Perhaps they thought it wasn't worth their while...

Haven't eaten but have had cocktails twice. Long wait both times and wrong drinks bought on one visit. Service is slightly surly and is charged at 12.5%.

Nice place for lunch, slightly limited menu but what we did choose was of a high standard.
