I whole hartedly disagree with the most recent review. I have eaten at the Fat Badger many times and always found both the food and the service particularly good.

Im opinion there are few pubs in the area that can compete with the quality of their offer. The bavette - a steak dish, that they do which would appear to be their signature dish is always a joy!!

The Badger is hard to better!!

The Fat Badger was a huge disappointment. The food was amazing, but unfortunately we had to wait an hour and a half for it to arrive! The service was the worst we had ever had. We had to call over a waitress every time we wanted to order food or a drink. We were kept waiting and waiting all night without any explanation.

This all explained why the restaurant was half empty on a Saturday night.

I was taken here a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday after it was given a good review in Timeout. It was a disaster from start to finish. Ordered our extremely overpriced food (£14 for a roast in pub?) and took a seat in their comfortable armchairs. After a 40 minute wait I went to investigate only to be told they couldn't find us (amongst the 10 other people in there). The food had set there for 20 mins and was served to us stone cold with a minimal apology. We were so hungry we had a go but it had got to an inedible stage. Great place for drinks, and catch the staff half awake and you might get an edible meal.

I went to the Fat Badger last night after wanting to go for a while. There are mixed reviews about this place, but I really enjoyed it. The best thing was the service and staff - the menu is a bit tricky to understand, but ask any of the staff and they explain everything fully without making you feel like an uneducated idiot. It is a refreshing change to have people who know about food - apparently the chef makes sure all the staff know exactly what everything is.

The atmosphere is quite trendy but without being pretentious. Love the wallpaper and we had a fabulous table with the most comfy chairs as opposed to your normal "numb you bum" wooden charis.

Only gripe is was perhaps on the more pricey side - £211 excluding service for 5 people. Although we did order 4 bottles of wine and one guy was drinking beer, so maybe that is explains the price? It's not a cheap pub dinner (but it's not trying to be either) so whilst I won't be going back reguarly, I will be going back.

Well, I love the bar in the Fat Badger, And upstairs there is a small open air terrace lit with white fairy lights where you can drink your beers and smoke to your heart's content - wonderful on summer evenings. The restaurant atmoshere is great, it's just a pity that the food's inedible and overpriced (just what exactly is an Epigram of Lamb anyway?), the menu choices are very limited, and the service is lamentable. We ate here on Monday night and found the experience so awful that we were crying with laughter. I'm normally very easy to please when it comes to food. Definitely come and enjoy a drink here - but eat at your peril.

I disagree with the reviewers comments about the sunday roast at the Fat Badger, I think they serve one of the best in the area. I do agree it can get smoky at the Fat Badger.

I have been a number of times on Sundays and for Saturday brunch, and found the waiters charming.

Long live the badger!!!

A group of 13 of us had booked at the Fat Badger this weekend for Sunday lunch. It's a nice place, with a pleasant atmosphere. But that's about as far as the praise can go. Servers don't carry notepads (a pet peeve of mine), which resulted in numerous mistakes being made. Our waitress brought two main courses and one dessert more than we had ordered - and then proceeded to charge us for that mistake. 3 meals inexplicably arrived 15 minutes after the 10 others - without apology or reason. Mint sauce apparently was "not available" and left for a very bland roast lamb. Beef was fatty and undercooked. And when confronted with the inevitable (and understandably a bit irritating) request for payment being made by several credit/debit cards, we received a roll of the eyes. Oh, and the "optional" service charge is automatically added to the bill (over £30 in our case).

I love it.. Shocked by the below comments.. The subtle qualities are clearly completely missed by the bullish critics below.. Food wise, it's not for impatient workaholics who only ever get steak and chips. It has fascinating food, chatty staff and just such a relaxed atmosphere (unless it's heaving on a friday night). When you're tempted to stay there for breakfast, lunch and dinner who cares if there's a ten minute wait.

Bad, bad, bad!! The servers were abrupt, bordering on rude. The food was very disappointing with my sea bass being undercooked. And the downstairs noise and smoke rise up to the restaurant, jarring your senses.

Please don't waste your time!

Avoid at all costs!! We came on bank holiday Monday... waited 40 minutes for drinks that only turned up after chasing the unhelpful staff twice, half of the menu had 'run out' and when our £15 steak and chips did arrive, they were over cooked and stone cold! Thoroughly dissapointing....
