The Ifield

A friend mentioned it would be worth my while visiting the new Ifield Public House and DIning Room in Ifield Road, Chelsea. I have now suggested the same to countless others, IT's FANTASTIC. Seasonal food, the game is as extensive as a country estates local pub, dishes for 2/4 to share and a suckling pig on the bar, generously carved to order.
I have to say, I loved my time there...... and the staff were casual but attentive.
Definately worth dropping by for a pint and great British hearty grub.

we went to the ifield today (nov 07) which is a new place, they said they'd been there for 2 months. Loved it. Great ambience, great food, great service. and great wine selection. We've done most of the restaurants around Old Brompton Road/Radcliffe Gardens, this place was a treat to find. Table far enough apart so you have privacy, good space, and located in what to us was previously a restaurant-free zone. We wish them well

My partner and I live just around the corner from this little secret, I have to say on all the occasions we have eaten there the food has been perfect, the service friendly and fast. I would eat there every night if I could

I think the ifield is a complete rip off.
I ordered the Tempura Prawns, I got one prawn and about three tiny pieces of vegetables. Heres my tip, give it a miss and try something ese thats better value and service. The so called manager was also extemely rude too.

I am a fan of this gastro-pub. I appreciate some people feel it is a little expensive, but I think the staff are very friendly, the food is decent, and best-of-all it is never overly full!!
However this weekend something went wrong. When the bill was paid I was asked for more money as I hadn't paid the full suggested service charge.
Now as far as I recall a "tip" is optional in this country and at the discretion of the clientele. What is more when I asked for some more to drink I was told "the manager would like you to know you will have to pay for service if it is brought to you at your table" - I bit my tongue at this point.
Again service is optional - and I have no problem tipping when service is good (which it is at the Ifield, and was this weekend). A tip is recognition of a job-well-done - similar to a bonus in other jobs.
Something is wrong here...

Recently moved to London, I can consider myself as an "Ifield addict"! The reason isn't simply the fact that I live 2mn walk from the place... It is more the combination of a relaxing atmosphere, the good quality of the products (the most important but so often forgotten ingredient in cooking today), the good balance of choices in the menu (between world food and british classics), and a friendly service. Of course there are still things to improve: a poor wine list (both in quality and diversity) and prices (a bit too high). Ifield is a good experience anyway.
