Upstairs, I have never had a good meal. The restaurant is super cute and has a great atmosphere, but the meals are always nothing more than 'fine', and the service is very inconsistent.

As a result I have always eaten in the restaurant downstairs at the back of the pub, which was always excellent and fun. Recently however, the meals have been VERY DODGY. Avoid the crab tagliolini at all costs (once marvellous, now terrible), avoid the cod goujons (flat, awful, tartare sauce was just mayonnaise with capers thrown into it) and now I feel sad that my favourite local has more on the menu that I want to avoid, than I want to eat. Don't they care any more???

oh my god.....a gem...

Nice atmosphere...and the food on first floor is simply really nice.

I've to confess the cote de boeuf was just unbelievable....and the venison as well...

and nice not too pricey choice of wonderful oyesters...

I'll be back....I love it..

Excellent. I love just round the corner from here and it is a great place to grab a casual bite to eat. The food is really very good, I had on of the best fish broths that I have ever had, and the strawberry cheese cake and delicious.

One bad point, the service is slow, and the waitress that served us had very poor english, which normally wouldn't be a problem, however she simply didn't understand anything that we were saying to her.

But on the 2 occasions that I have been now I have been very inpressed. Next time I'm definaintly going to have one of the amazing looking fish platters

Went there last night for the first time, and it was great! The mallard took a little while to come but once it did it was excellent! The platters looked amazing!! Luckily it's just round the corner from me, I will definitely go again!

Gourmet Chick

Gourmet Chick - 7/10

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 - This is a girly dinner so we eschew the Guinness for Sauvignon Blanc but we do order a selection of oysters. The Fine de Claire oysters have that classic salty taste of the sea while the Scottish fresh water oysters are decidedly different in both appearance and taste. The oysters are rounder and a brown colour with a much sweeter and less salty taste. Both are simple, fresh, glorious...The menu is limited with an emphasis on seasonal food. At this time of year grouse is on offer however I am not keen to stump up 34. The perfectly cooked whole sea bass served on a bed of lentils is more accessibly priced.
