I read the previous reviews and realised they were, all in all, historic in terms of The Morgan Arms as it is now (2010/11 isn't exactly recent).

I have no experience of the place in 2010/11, as the first time I ate there was around July 2011, but I can't concur with the previous reviewers' comments on service. I can only imagine they have taken the comments on board with great success.

If you want to eat in the bar area you're more than welcome to and the restaurant area is great if you want to be away from people who are just drinking (hardly in a rowdy way, it has to be said).

The food has been continually very, very good gastropub - which is exactly what you'd expect for a £15 lunch, anything less would be a disappointment.

It's still on the high end of price, but you're guaranteed decent food, thoughtful service and a great pint of well-kept ale.

This is only seconded by the fact that I've been there on a Sunday and found it packed to the rafters. That says it all.

We had the Sunday pub lunch for £14.50. Whilst the pub had a lovely atmosphere and great setting with some lovely spring sunshine coming through the window this was literally thrown out the window by the quality of the food. The roast potatoes were over cooked and had obviously been sitting for quite some time (we arrived at 1pm), the same applied to the Yorkshire pudding, the veg and meat were somewhat better but still distinctly average. I would say this is a £5 meal with a £15 price-tag.

I couldn't disagree more with the last two reviews. My wife and I have just returned from an exceptionally good evening and great meal served with style and grace by delightful people. the french chef's onion soup was to die for, both our mains and puddings were excellent. the wine was good the presentation of the meal better, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the service and attention to the customer was superb. Thank you to all at the Morgan Arms, Bow for a delightful evening.

I agree with the last person to comment, this gastropub has gone down hill rapidly, Customer service is so poor to say the least, and the food is even worst, overpriced food and drink is only for people who go there to look at the great books behind the bar(yeh i go to pubs to read a book), how anyone can pay the price of a Sunday roast and get a warmed up ready meal is besides me, give us back the great london Morgan Arms of the late 90s early 2000s please. I hope the manager reads these review then maybe changes can be made to return this once fantastic pub back to its former glory days.

I agree with the other reviewers that quality and value have declined over the years, and while it would be on OK gastropub elsewhere in London, it is still a miracle in a place like Mile End.

The service is terrible though, and they all but tell you that they don't care. Recently we went for Sunday lunch, a little late, but about 90 minutes before the lunch service ended. They said they could seat us in the restaurant area but not in the bar as they had stopped serving there. Fine. So we bought a drink and waited to be seated, but the lady never came back. After ten minutes we went and asked someone else who said that kitchen was closed because they had run out of food. Nobody was going to tell us though; it was a piece of information we had to seek out. It was then followed by "let me see what I can do for you". And then he too was gone forever. When we were about to leave and paid for our pints, we mentioned all of this, and said that we missed out on a lunch elsewhere because of their lack of communication. Nothing. If you live in Mile End, it is the best you have, but leave your standards and expectations at home - we had a Tesco's sandwich on the way home.
