Gold Mine

Very crowded at times, so best go outside regular lunch and dinner hours as they don't mind, and the service and food are actually better when they are not under pressure. There are many good dishes here,so please don't eat the usual sweet/sour pork and peking duck. Go to the last section of the menu where there are the chef's specialities and order from there. The food is generally well prepared and can be spicy if you are not careful. Wine choice is good and simple. Onlty glitch we had was the waiter adding service charge when it was already included .

When the head barbecue chef at Four Seasons defected with other staff to form Goldmine, many of his regulars moved with him, and with good reason. The restaurant's Cantonese barbecue specialities are as flawless as ever, with some of the finest char siu and duck -- crispy or otherwise -- in the capital, a testimony to this being the regular Singaporean and Malaysian clientele, notoriously fastidious and discerning about their food.
On top of that is a relatively standard selection of Chinese dishes, generally executed well, though their seafood hotpot and sizzling fillet steak are excellent, with a few Straits dishes thrown in to reflect the culinary heritage of the staff; it's one of only a few restaurants in London that serves a decent kangkong belacan, one of Malaysia's spicy, better-kept secrets.

Been coming here regularly since it opened early 2007. Friendly, clean and reasonably priced place. Serves a mix of regulars and tourists and overspill from the neighbouring Four Seasons - which is how I first visited. Now I have defected mainly due to the better friendlier service (i.e they don''t give a sour face when you don't tip as 13% service charge is added to the bill) and it ids much easier to get a table. Four Seasons can be like a zoo at times.
Food wise its up to par. The roast duck is very competent, roast pork is crispy and flavousome and the char siu is fantastic. They serve your usual chinese restaurant staples plus some more authentic dishes. Our faves being the steamed egg and seafood, fish and aubergine hot pot and the chilly minced pork with japanese tofu on a hotplate. They even recomended a dish once which was spareribs stir fried in a sweet sour salad cream sauce. Very unique to say the least.
You won't be disappointed, we don't even go to Chinatown anymore and I can assure you this place is better than 80% of the rubbish you now find in Chi town.
