An average dining experience.
Food was good, but not especially so, and pretty poor value. Very slow service. They also did not quote VAT in their prices on the menu, adding it to the final bill and leading to a more expensive meal than we imagined.
We were the only diners there and I can see why. I won' return - there are many better Ethiopean restaurants in London.

I am currently on a mission to find an Ethiopian restaurant in Central / North London that matches up to the amazing Sodaria in Shepherds Bush. I went to Addis last night with 4 of my friends to do a taste test! As with many of the reviews I would argree that the portions were on the small side. The food, however, was lovely and the staff were very friendly, oddly one of the waitresses that used to work at Sodaria was now working in Addis which may have lead to the warm welcome we recieved! None of us had any complaints about anything and the only things we came up with, when being super picky, was that the Ingera was far more sour than the Ingera we are used to and the portions smaller. This would not put us off returning and I am considering taking all my work colleagues so they can experience the wonder that is Ethiopian food!
All in all a very good evening with lovely food a fantastic, atmosphere and a brilliant price. What more could you want from a restaurant?
The only reason I am giving 9's and not 10's is that it isn't quite as good as my regular Ethiopian.

A couple of friends recommened it so we popped up there to try it (and had a look around the new St Pancras Eurostar terminal - which is FAB!).
Addis: Loved the place. The people were friendly, the service was definately 'unhurried' but that equated to 'relaxed' for us as we weren't chasing the clock at all.
The mixed platter for two was more than we could eat, although we only really left some sauce and the injera 'plate'. The spicy lamb was quite hot, but not a cumulative heat like curry, more like Thai (ie starts hot but you get used to it) and very tender! The chicken also very tasty - just the one boiled egg. Interestingly, an Ethiopian girl on another table mentioned you'd normally get one egg each if in Ethiopia, but one between two was fine for us. The vegetarian dishes were great too.
I'd definately go there again.

In my opinion this had to be one of the worst experiences of hospitality and gastronomy that I have ever had the displeasure of ever experiencing. A luke warm welcome from the front of house staff, who seemed to have taken on a bout of Aspergers Syndrome but unfortunately forgot to process half the order. The food eventually arrived incorporating a furnaced fish (the dried flakes had to be scraped off resulting in only 2 level tablespoons of dried flakes). Lamb ribs had the consistency of beef jerky and salad which contained more oil that a Texan well. Upon complaining about these matters, our friend with the warm welcome shrugged, informed me not to worry and scuttled back to the till to count up his hard earned cash. In all a very dissapointing and expensive evening which gave a poor representation of what is normally very delightful cuisine.

Went for a meal with friends to Addis on a Saturday night. For six of us eating four of the meals were not edible and two of them were fine. All of the dishes that weren't vegetarian were ruined. Don't eat the red snapper - a whole snapper that was so burnt that it was not worth eating. A lamb dish that consisted of three ribs with no meat on them and lumps of incinerated meat that tasted like lumps of coal. Thirdly my friend and her husband did not receive two of their dishes that were supposed to and the waiter said he forgot to put an order in for them - no reduction in price or apology.
The restuarant looks lovely inside and as I had the nice food I can't complain about mine. I would defintely though only order vegetarian food there even if you are a carnivore at heart. I also have to say that I have been to an Ethiopian restuarant in Kentish Town on 4 separate occasions including a wedding buffet and the food was always exceptional. You can't always guarantee to get a seat there though which is why we ended up at Addis.

Heard good things so gave this a try, and the atmosphere and staff were fine. Had 3 dishes, the simplest being basically lightly spiced grilled chicken, which was tasty. The 2 others were both curries, one chicken, one lamb. I love spicy food, but for me, while there was plenty of heat there was very little flavour. Both these dishes had barely any meat in them, and it was very gristly and chewy. I was very disappointed by the bread - it tasted exactly like a thick pancake soaked in vinegar. I've not experienced Ethiopian food before, but I can only assume this was an error on the night. Overall, very disappointing.

Food in general has very good flavour.
The downside is that the portion is way to small, particularly for the dishes such as Dora Wot and the vegetable menus. There is one egg (which seems to be standard) but only ONE little piece of chicken in Dora Wot. Having lived in Ethiopia myself and cooked Dora Wot myself, this is definitely a rip-off in my opinion.
Also, the Injera (the Ethiopian bread) is a bit too thick, nearly twice the thickness the usual injera you would get in Ethiopia or many Ethio restaurants abroad.

Having lived in Ethiopia for a while, we love the Ethiopian cuisine. The food at Addis is good - authentic and very tasty -and excellent for a first Ethiopian experience. Nice atmosphere
