We ate here early on Saturday night. It was my first experience of Ethiopian food, and I liked it enough that I would certainly return. We had a variety of vegetable and pulse dishes, which would be somewhat basic were it not for the spicing, all eaten with a sour, springy bread that apparently is an Ethiopian staple. The bread is interesting in that whilst not particularly nice on its own, it complimented the other dishes very well. Service was polite and pleasant, and the heavily-decorated restaurant has its own distinct mood.

I have been dining at this restaurant now for many years and I would recommend it to everyone. For anyone who hasn't tried Ethiopian cuisine the food mainly consists of minced meats and vegetables served on a thin layer of Ethiopian bread, with rolls of this thin bread supplied to 'pinch' the food and consume (no cutlery). There is a large selection of vegetarian dishes also, and if you get a chance to go you must try the coffee, the aroma is amazing as they bring up the roasting coffee beans and wave them about.
I must say the service for me has always been first class. I am not really one for writing reviews on anything, and this review does not do the restaurant justice I think. All I can say really, is that the food is outstanding. I have been to three or four Ethiopian restaurants and this on is by far the best. I was pleasantly supplied when I first tried it now I am hooked!
I will also say the restaurant is perfect for groups of friends or for couples.

It was a good restaurant, eventually I was let down by the manager.
lets start at the beginning I was trying to pay the bill, but the system doesn't go through my account so I asked her what's the problem was, however she told me to see their manager, so I went downstairs to speak to him, so asked him what’s wrong with the machine, however he didn’t have the Guts to explain the problem or to communicate professional, he just told me to go to cash machine across the road which I seem to find very impolite, so at that moment i was so changed about the feeling I had for that restaurant.
I suggest he should write a notice somewhere where the customer can see it and he should change the way he interact with customers.

Lalibela ain't like it used to be. Service has been very slow the last time I went - the food didn't seem to be so well put together. It didn't help the ambience that for the entire duration of our meal there were dirty dishes on the adjoining table which were not cleared. There are other better Ethiopian restaurants. A shame as this used to be somewhere special.

Lalibela is really seriously letting itself down these days. It used to serve terrific, spicy ethiopian food practically as good as what you get in Ethiopia. These days, it has turned itself into a manufacturer of bland, soulless, overpriced nosh obviously aimed at the less discriminating end of the market. The place is maybe a victim of its own success with word of mouth bringing in a different crowd that is less bothered about proper food and more interested in an 'exotic' experience. Certainly on the night I was there I was seated next to a group of braying, sloany students who were not the sort of person you would have seen in Lalibela a few years ago. If you are looking for nice decor and Ethiopian music in the background while you eat this is fine. In terms of a good eating experience which tells you something about Ethiopian food, forget it. This is coming from someone who used to go there 2 or 3 times a month and would recommend it to all and sundry incidentally...Until the management get a grip and start producing proper ethiopian food again, this is definitely a place to avoid for the moment. There are so many places out there offering much better value for money.

A group of us went there for the first time this weekend and were very impressed. The decor is authentic and the food fantastic, although a little heavy on the stomach if you're not used to all the spices! Good service from friendly waiters.

Great restaurant - the decor was fantastic, with lots of ethopian artifacts. The food was fantastic, and the way of eating the food made it taste even better - great for going out in small groups. To top up the meal, make sure you order coffee. The only downside is that service is very slow.

Went there last week after many years. Food has actually improved and service was superb. Would definitely make the trek to Tuffnel Park (which we discovered was the closer station and not Kentish town) to eat there again.
Highlights included the chick pea dish and the lentil dish.
Definitely worth going!
