A small and sometimes overlooked gem, just off the A299. The Dove is one of the few genuine "Gastro" pubs in the area and the only near rival to the renowned Sportsman at Seasalter.
Nigel, the chef, sources local ingredients and cooks them in his own distinctive way, specialising in complex juliens of vegetables surrounded by intense broths or jus - not that this West Ham fan would have any truck with such pretentious restaurantese.
But if you want perfectly cooked Sea Bass or a shank of salt marsh lamb that falls off the bone, combined with excellent and original starters and fine puddings, the Dove is the place for you.
Added to which, there is a short but cunningly chosen wine list ; the delightful, friendly and down to earth service of the incomparable Bridget; a sunny wonderful, garden; and an authentic Victorian pub that still serves good beer to the village locals.
There aren't many places in East Kent that are worth a journey or can compete with London at its best, but the Dove is undoubtedly one of them.
